Crystal clear waters and azure blue sky were the breathtaking backdrop to this beautiful Greek wedding. Our WED2B Real Weddings Southampton feature reveals more:

Laura and Jack met through her sister’s boyfriend, who is Jack’s half brother. “They were having a BBQ and Jack and I just got chatting,” says Laura. “We instantly clicked, despite the six-year age gap. We’re just so similar! Our first official date was at the beautiful Tylney Hall, in Hampshire, and we now go back every year for our anniversary.”

Popping the question

The couple were on a holiday with family in Thailand when Jack proposed. “It was a massive shock,” says Laura. “We went to the Festival of Light in Chiang Mai, which was the most beautiful thing to witness. We were on a river bank watching the lanterns in the sky and handmade candles float along the river. Then I turned around and Jack was down on one knee. Of course I said yes! He’d asked my Father’s permission too, which meant the world to me. He’s very traditional like that!”

Dream dress shopping

Laura visited her nearest WED2B store in Southampton. “I went with my bridesmaids, my Mum and my Nana,” she says. “Anna Sorrano’s Constance design was the first wedding dress I’d ever tried on and it fitted absolutely perfectly. I definitely got that ‘bride’ feeling. I walked out of the changing room and everyone started crying, it was just magical. After trying on four more I realised none of them compared to Constance, so I went with it! I bought it there and then and didn’t regret it at all. I also bought a veil too, which was stunning. It was exactly how I'd pictured I would look on my big day. Finally, I purchased the underskirt and a box for the dress, as I needed to take it abroad. The ladies in the store were so helpful, I couldn’t thank them enough.”

A sunny Greek wedding

Jack and Laura decided to have a Greek wedding and got married at Aegilias Hotel & Spa Resort on a remote island called Amorgos. “From day one we knew we wanted to get married abroad, and as soon as we saw pictures of this place our hearts melted,” says Laura. “The first time we saw it in person was just four days before the ceremony! It’s family run and the owners were so loving and personable. They treated us like we were their family as soon as we arrived. It was so heartwarming.”

Flowers, decorations and more

“We were so lucky that the hotel and the staff there dealt with all the decorations and flowers,” says Laura. “I showed them my bridesmaids' dresses and they did all the hard work! This suited us to a T, as we’re absolutely useless at stuff like that. It all came together perfectly. I literally couldn’t have made it look any better if I’d tried.”

A day to remember

The couple’s Greek wedding was held on 8th June 2018. “In the morning we had the official signing of the papers in the capital Chora,” says Laura. “This took a little longer than expected, as it was the first wedding they’d had on the island that year and the system had changed! Thankfully everyone pulled together and it was all sorted. We joked and laughed about the ordeal afterwards. After that, we walked around Chora and took some breathtaking pictures before heading back to the hotel."

The ceremony

“The ceremony was perfect,” says Laura. “It was in a beautiful setting with all our nearest and dearest. We wouldn’t have changed it for the world. My favourite memory is of seeing my husband cry! In the four years we’ve been together I haven’t once seen that side of him. It really melted my heart.”

Partying the night away

“The ceremony only took 15 minutes or so, although it seemed to be over in a flash,” says Laura. “Once we’d had our first kiss as a married couple we left and made our way to the reception area, where there were drinks and canapés waiting for us. A traditional Greek wedding band also followed us there, playing beautiful music. It felt so surreal! Then it was down to the pool area to have a sit-down meal overlooking the stunning view, followed by speeches and cutting the cake. We had a mousse-like chocolate cake and it was delicious. They had incorporated some of the wedding flowers (lilies) into the decorations and managed to make it pastel pink too!”

So many great memories…

As we started our first dance, fireworks went off behind us, as a surprise for our guests,” says Laura. “We felt like we were in a film! It makes me shiver just thinking back to it. A few hours later we were jumping fully clothed into the pool - luckily not in my dress, though!”
