Real Weddings Stoke-on-Trent: Ruby and Nicholas’s festive small wedding

This small wedding was all about festive fun! Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more:

Nicholas and Ruby got together via social media. “Nicholas added me as a friend on Facebook and we got to know each other,” says Ruby. “I finally agreed to meet up with him and he took to me a pub one summer’s evening. We sat outside with a prosecco as the sun was going down."

The big question

Nicholas proposed in June 2017. “I came home to find rose petals leading upstairs to our room,” says Ruby. “When I entered the bedroom there were rose petals spelling out the words, ‘Will you marry me?’ on the bed. I turned around and Nicholas was down on one knee!”

Shopping for ‘The One’

Ruby wore WED2B’s Breanna dress. “I visited WED2B in Stoke-on-Trent and my store experience was wonderful,” says Ruby. “The staff were so helpful and couldn’t do enough for me. They made me and my family feel very comfortable. I chose Breanna because I loved the lace on the dress and the keyhole back. It was so perfect and the detail was breathtaking. I didn’t need any extras. The dress was perfect how it was.”

Small but perfectly formed

The couple chose Slaters Country Inn, in Staffordshire, as their wedding venue. “I chose it because it had a beautiful, small wedding house outside and I thought it was unusual,” says Ruby. “The venue had the intimate, cosy feel I wanted for our small wedding. When we went to look around, the log fire was lit and the venue just looked magical. We got married on the 28th December, so we had a Christmas theme. The Christmas tree was still up and it made it look even more perfect.”

The big day

“We had two pieces of music before I walked down the aisle, ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’ by Aerosmith and Ben Howard’s ‘Only Love’. Then my Dad walked in with me to ‘You Raise Me Up’ by Andre Rieu. During the ceremony we had a reading by my eleven-year-old nephew, Ashton, which was one of my favourite moments. Then we walked out to ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours’ by Stevie Wonder.”

A festive reception

The wedding had a Christmas theme with lots of red, green and even tartan. “We had lots of pine cones, fresh flowers, candles and hessian, plus tartan ribbon on the backs of chairs,” says Ruby. “It was like a magical Christmas wonderland. We had a wishing well too, with sweets inside for the children. There was also a photo booth, which everyone enjoyed!”

Champagne, dancing and cake!

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a glass of bubbly before sitting down to the wedding breakfast. “Later we had lots of dancing and in the evening there was Texan food,” says Ruby. “Our cake had three-tiers with flowers on the sides to match the flowers on the tables.”

So many happy memories…

“One funny thing I will always remember was the hoop on my skirt falling down,” says Ruby. “The wedding planner had to lift my dress above my head to sort it out! One of my favourite parts of the day was the dancing, which was very entertaining, and, of course, all the speeches. My main memory is just of everyone having a great day.”
