What could be more romantic than a Tuscan vineyard wedding surrounded by beautiful rolling hills? That's exactly what this couple thought when they planned their big day...

Emma and Luca met as teenagers. “We were childhood sweethearts,” says Emma. “We met 14 years ago and have been together ever since.”

Luca proposed in September 2020. “It was completely unexpected after being together for 12 years,” says Emma. “We had booked a last minute glamping trip in between the lockdowns. Little did I know that Luca had already got the ring hidden at home, waiting for the right moment. We went to visit a local botanical gardens near the campsite with our two dogs. He popped the question when there was no one else around, so it was just us and our dogs. It was perfect.”

Shopping for the dress

“I had an amazing experience at wed2b Swansea,” says Emma. “I loved the fact that I could just walk into the shop without having to pre-book an appointment. It was very relaxed and I didn’t feel pressured at all. I still can’t get my head around how reasonably priced the dresses are, too. And the quality of my dress was perfect. 10/10!”

Emily bought Jessie, a fitted sheath covered in stunning beaded Chantilly lace. “I also bought a veil, hair clip and travel bag,” she says.

A beautiful Tuscan vineyard wedding

The couple chose an idyllic vineyard resort in the heart of Tuscany for their big day in May. "The ceremony was held outdoors under a 200-year-old cedar tree,” says Emma. “The views were also outstanding. Our Tuscan vineyard wedding was everything I had ever dreamt of.”

The big day

“I got ready with my mum, maid of honour and three bridesmaids in the bridal suite,” says Emma. “Our ceremony was at 3pm, so we had plenty of time to get ready. It was a lovely, chilled morning. The weather was beautiful and our suite also opened up onto a little terrace area, so we spent some time out there as well.”

“My dad and little brother walked me down the aisle, it was very emotional,” says Emma. “The reading at ceremony was ‘What does marriage mean in today’s world?’ by Teresa Ling.”

Delicious Italian food and drink

After the ceremony there were aperitifs and finger food, including Tuscan meats, cheese and antipasti with a range of cocktails, wines and juices. “Our wedding dinner was nettle ravioli with sage and butter sauce, then a Tuscan bbq with roasted potatoes, salad and grilled vegetables,” says Emma. “For pudding, we had a dessert corner with a range of mini desserts.” 

“For our first dance, my husband had secretly contacted the band a few months before the wedding and asked them to learn the acoustic version of ‘Everlong’ by the Foo Fighters,” says Emma. “This song is very special to us both, so it was a lovely surprise."

A soft green colour scheme

“We had a natural colour scheme of greens and whites to fit in with the beautiful surroundings of the Tuscan hills,” says Emma. “The venue’s natural flowers really stood out against our colour scheme, too. We made confetti cones out of brown paper and, on the wedding morning, our flower girl, my nan and our wedding coordinator picked flowers from the gardens and filled the cones with the petals for natural confetti.”

The couple had a traditional Italian millefoglie for their wedding cake. “It had layers of pastry with fresh cream and fruit, which went down a treat,” says Emma. “There was also a local Tuscan band for our evening party, which finished off with an incredibly talented saxophonist. The guests also took full advantage of the open bar, which was a fantastic addition.”

The best bits…

“They say rain is good luck on your wedding day,” says Emma. “One of the reasons we chose to get married in Italy was (hopefully) guaranteed nice weather. The weather was beautiful, not too hot but lovely and warm. However, when we were exchanging our vows, we could hear a rumble of thunder and literally two or three drops of rain landed on our shoulders. Then it completely blew over and the sun came out again for the rest of the day. I would like to think it was our loved ones, who unfortunately couldn’t be with us, looking down on us and wishing us good luck for our marriage and future together. It’s something I will remember forever.”

My top tips…

“Try not to worry too much about pleasing everyone else,” says Emma. “Focus on what’s important to you and the groom. And enjoy every second, the stress will be completely worth it!”
