This happy couple’s joyful outlook was reflected in their brightly coloured, fun wedding day

Faye and Dan met at the gym. “Dan was my personal trainer,” says Faye. “He kicked my bum and shouted ‘Oi, when are you going to come and train with me?’. I started training with him, and also counselling him through his woes with women and we became friends outside of the gym, too. I invited him to come and watch an England rugby game with my parents. Then, in the pub afterwards I made my move. The rest, as they say, is history!”

A proposal in Mexico

Dan proposed in March 2022 when the couple were on holiday in Mexico. “We had the most incredible day snorkelling in cenotes in the jungle and seeing turtles in the sea,” says Faye. “After a relaxing afternoon at the hotel, Dan suggested we go for a walk along the beach before dinner. It was there, on the beach under the moonlight, that he asked me to be his wife. I was so shocked, I couldn’t stop saying, ‘Are you joking, is this real?’. I did eventually say yes!”

Shopping for the dress

“I’d heard of wed2b, and also knew that I didn’t want to spend thousands of pounds on a dress,” says Faye. “Of course, I still wanted to look and feel amazing. At the Surbiton store I told Gaby, the assistant, that I had no idea what I wanted. I was completely open to suggestions and to trying on a few different styles. I didn’t want a short dress or a long sleeved dress, but that was my only criteria.”

“So, we picked out four or five different styles, as a starting point and went into the changing room. The first dress was a strappy A-line and I was just in complete shock when I saw myself in the mirror. It didn’t look like me at all, and I didn’t really know how to feel about it."

"After that, I tried on a variety of other dresses and none of them were quite right. So, Gaby suggested that I try the first dress again. She added a belt and a veil and when I saw myself in the mirror this time, it just felt right. I felt incredible wearing the dress and the accessories she’d put together with it!”

Finding ‘The One’

Faye’s dress was Kaur, a soft tulle A-line with embroidered floral lace. “Despite it being quite a simple design, I just felt so amazing when I put it on,” she says. “My mum and sister-in-law both teared-up when they saw me in it and I just knew it was the one for me. My floral lace veil, Monae, was just beautiful. I never imagined I’d have such a dramatic veil, but I loved it! I also bought a belt, hair comb and underskirt at the same time.”

A relaxed venue

“Much like my dress, our venue The Talbot in Surrey, was the first and only venue we visited and we booked it straight away,” says Faye. “It’s a mixture of old barn and modern restaurant, and our dogs were allowed to be part of the day which was a big selling point for us. We liked the fact our co-ordinator said it was the type of venue for couples who wanted a fun wedding and didn’t take themselves too seriously. It ticked all the boxes for us, so we booked it for the 2nd September.”

The big day

“I got ready with two of my bridesmaids,” says Faye. “Once I was ready, my third bridesmaid, page boy and my dad all came to collect me. The weather was slightly cloudy in the morning but the day ended up being absolutely beautiful, warm but not too hot. My dad walked me down the aisle to Shane Filan’s ‘Amazed’ and then my two dogs came in, bearing the rings!”

After the ceremony there was a drinks reception in the garden, with Pimms, Kir Royal, Champagne and canapés. “Personally, I had a pint of beer though!” says Faye. “Our wedding breakfast was a hog roast and bbq with all the trimmings and side dishes. Then, for dessert, we had a doughnut wall. Our first dance song was 'Our Song’ by Wretch 32. Just six words in, as soon as the beat dropped, we invited everyone up onto the dance floor!”

Bright colours for a fun wedding day

“The colour scheme was navy and royal blue with magenta pink,” says Faye. “I love the combination of these colours. The flowers were magenta pink gerberas, which were then dotted around the venue, throughout the centrepieces, the moon arch and the mens’ button holes."

"We made our own selfie frame and added props, as well as hanging photos of us as a couple around the barn area but, otherwise, we paid for the venue to be decorated. "

"We had a DJ for the evening, who picked the perfect music, as per our instructions, and the dance floor was busy!”

The best bits…

“The most memorable moment of the whole day was our dogs bringing the rings down the aisle,” says Faye. “Also, the top tier of our cake melted and plopped off the top, just as the groom started his speech with ‘that cake’s not going to last’. Plus, to end the night, the ridiculous and very sweaty dancing was great!”

My top tips…

“Enjoy it!,” says Faye. “And don’t stress the little things. No one else will notice if something gets missed or doesn’t happen. Just enjoy every single minute of it. And don’t drink too much!”
