Our wedding survey reveals all.

When we asked brides to tell us about their wedding plans over 4,500 responded to our survey. Here’s Part 1 of our wedding survey results, (Click here to view the infographic) where we reveal what season is most popular to marry in, the most common number of guests on the list and most fashionable wedding venues. Planning a wedding is a big task, so if you’ve recently said Yes! and are feeling a little daunted, here are the results from our real brides, with real experience to get you started…

Wedding Planning - Bride and Groom

Where to start with wedding planning?

Once you've started your big list, try to break down your wedding tasks into smaller planning jobs and identify things you can enjoy together as a couple.

Venue shopping should be high on your list as many popular venues get booked up a year or more in advance. The top 3 wedding venue types for our brides surveyed were Hotel with 26%, Country House, with 23% and Barn, with 20%.  As your venue is a big part (and expense) of your day, consider the style of your wedding and if you are going to go with a particular theme. A wedding theme will set the tone for your whole day, so if you are a whimsical bohemian style bride a Barn venue covered with twinkling fairly lights will be just perfect. Or if your dream wedding day is a fairy tale full of romance and magic, a stunning country house will add a dramatic backdrop for your photographs.

Suit your style to the Season

Each season offers something magical for your wedding. From stunning blossoms in Spring to incredible photographs in the soft evening light in the Summer. With the promise of better weather it’s not surprising that 45% of our brides had a Summer wedding. But, no matter what the season we recommend being prepared – a pretty brolly is perfect if Spring showers appear and in Summer if it’s super-hot, you’ll be glad for the shade! From our survey, only 13% of brides chose a Winter wedding. You could use the cold weather to your advantage (as well as lower costs) with roaring log fires and a candlelit celebration.

The guest list…

Will you be surrounded by lots of your family and friends or just by your tight-knit group of besties? Well, when it comes to the guest list more than half of our brides surveyed (54%) are having 50-100 guests. It’s not only your budget that may impact on your guest list, the capacity at your venue will play a big part in the number of guests you can celebrate with. Small and intimate with less than 50 guests was the choice for 18% of our brides whilst 28% were planning a big bash with more than 100 guests.
