Jane and Gary first met in May 2017. “We met by his car, which was parked outside Marks & Spencer,” says Jayne. “He then took me to his favourite place for dinner.”

Five years later Gary proposed. “He asked me to marry him at Eilean Donan Castle on a wintery afternoon in December 2021. It’s a four-hour, round trip from our house. I expected it but I was still nervous and excited on the drive there.”

Shopping for the dress

Jayne found her dream dress at WED2B Edinburgh. “I heard about WED2B through word of mouth,” says Jayne. “I went to the Glasgow store and the Edinburgh store. Both are great and the staff were very helpful, both in-store and online."

“I ended up choosing Mae. It was sparkly and beautiful, and just the kind of dress I wanted.” For similar styles take a closer look at Raye, Elliana and Kyrah.

A Scottish wedding in a castle

The couple held their Scottish wedding at Kincraig Castle Hotel. “It was the first out of eight wedding venues we viewed,” says Jayne. “I found it online, and we chose it because of how beautiful it was inside and outside. It was expensive but worth it.”

The big day

“I got ready with my mum and bridesmaids,” says Jayne. “The weather was sunny but windy. We decided to have the ceremony outdoors but the wind almost took my veil and head away! The ceremony still went well, nonetheless.”

“My dad walked me down the aisle with a piper piping us down,” says Jayne. “A special moment was having our rescue dog as a ring bearer but, surprise, surprise, my husband did not put the rings on him!”

The reception

“After the ceremony, there were canapés, formal family photographs and a Chinese tea ceremony,” says Jayne. “Our first dance song was ‘Wonderful Tonight’ by Eric Clapton, as it was the song we sang during my sister’s wedding.”

Lovely homemade touches

“Everything was DIY, as we were trying to save money,” says Jayne. “It was stressful but worth it. The colour scheme was baby blue and lilac and we had a two tier wedding cake. The top tier was cinnamon apple and the bottom tier was red velvet.”

“I ordered favours online, they were bottle opener keychains engraved with our names and the wedding date,” says Jayne. “We also had a DJ, disco and photo booth.”

The best bits…

“The most memorable moment was our first dance, which was very impromptu and unforgettable.”
