Megan and Sam matched on Tinder when they were both living and working in London in November 2016. “Our first date was to Winter Wonderland,” say Megan. “It was magical, we just clicked instantly and had an immediate connection. We had the best time.”
A romantic proposal
“We got legally married on 15th August 2018, due to Sam’s work in the army, plus we were also expecting a baby,” say Megan. “It was a small registry office service, so we booked the wedding shortly afterwards for our fourth wedding anniversary."
"In November 2021, Sam was posted to London for his job, which meant being away from his family. The day before he left, his proposed with a ring. It was very emotional, as he was leaving for London the next day, but the ring was beautiful and it made us very excited for the big day.”
Shopping for the dress
Megan visited WED2B Derby looking for her dream dress. “It was a wonderful relaxed experience,” she says.
“The girls in the shop were so helpful and approachable. I was able to try on loads of different styles to find the one I liked. I hadn’t actually gone into the shop with an intention to buy but then I tried on Minnie, and I just couldn’t leave without it. It was nice that my mum, dad and son were also there to see it”
“I chose Minnie because it was just beautiful and fitted so well,” say Megan. “I didn’t want anything too tight, so I could eat and dance comfortably. It also sparkled when it caught the light. I felt like a princess. I also bought a tiara, which went so well with the dress.” (For similar styles try Yara, Amaya and Kaur)
A stylish venue
“Our military wedding was at Syrencot, a lovely Georgian house near Salisbury,” say Megan. “We used to live in Salisbury, because Sam had to move with work. It’s an amazing venue with a house, glasshouse and modern barn. It’s also got beautiful gardens with lots of flowers. We just knew that we had to have our day there.”
The big day
The couple were married on 15th August 2022. “I got ready with my mum, my two bridesmaids and my three-year-old son,” say Megan. “The weather was sunny and hot, it did shower slightly but it didn’t ruin the day. My dad walked me down the aisle to ‘Turning Page’ by Sleeping At Last and our exit song was ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ by Stevie Wonder."
"My brother gave a reading called ‘Maybe’. Our son, who is three, walked down the aisle first in the same military uniform his dad was wearing. He did walk in the wrong direction but it made everyone laugh!”
Drinks, dancing and colourful flowers
“After the ceremony we served Pimms and canapés,” say Megan. “We had some pictures taken in the grounds and gardens and there were also garden games and a magician. Our first dance was to ‘Beautiful Crazy’ by Luke Combs. It’s actually Sam’s favourite song but I’ve grown to like it.”
A military wedding
“Our wedding was colourful with lots of bright flowers, decorations and balloons,” say Megan. “We also had the military element, with lots of people in uniform. There was BBQ food in the day and pizza in the evening."
"Our three-tier wedding cake was also bright and colourful, and decorated with some of the flowers. It had flavours of raspberry and peach at the bottom, chocolate in the middle and lemon sponge on the top."
"On the tables there were flowers in jars that we also used as favours for the guests,” say Megan. “Plus, we had the best DJ for our evening entertainment.”
Happy memories
“The most memorable moment for me was walking down the aisle with my dad,” say Megan. “Also, sitting outside on a bench for 10 minutes with Sam, while everyone was sitting down for dinner, just to take the day in. Then dancing all night long. My feet were so sore the next day!”
My top tips…
“Don’t stress on the day,” say Megan. “No one will know if it’s not how you planned it. Our menu was slightly wrong on the day, as the venue had a mix up, but it didn’t ruin anything and was still nice. Take in every moment. The day goes so fast.”
