Rachel's Outdoor Summer Wedding with Countryside Views

Real bride Rachel at her outdoor countryside wedding

Setting: Saddleworth Moor, Greater Manchester

Dress: Rea in blush by Viva Bride

Style: Rustic, green, relaxed outdoor ceremony

Rachel and Ryan married on a beautiful July day in the Peak District. "During the planning we changed our venue to something more local, so my nan could come," says Rachel. "It's about putting family first, and we fell in love with the views and the friendly staff at the Grains Bar Hotel."

A princess-style wedding dress

Rachel wore princess-style Rea, a sparkling off-the-shoulder A-line in soft blush. "After looking online, I knew exactly what I wanted," she says. "A princess dress with a corset back and a statement feel. Rea was exactly what I imagined. It was stunning, I knew as soon as I saw it that it was meant to be!"

A rustic outdoor wedding day with picturesque views

The ceremony was held in the hotel's gardens and Rachel walked down the aisle with her hero, her dad. "Afterwards there were drinks and we spent time outside chatting, taking photos and enjoying the stunning views with family," says Rachel. "The food was an equally relaxed BBQ banquet."

Personal touches and arcade games

"The colour palette was inspired by the surrounding countryside, with shades of green complementing the delightful views," says Rachel. "I did all the decorations myself and dressed the venue the night before with help from my family and friends. Ryan and I are gamers, so we also rented arcade machines for the evening. They were amazing and the ideal fit for our day."

The moments that mattered

"The most emotional moments were walking down the aisle and seeing my husband-to-be's eyes light up when he saw me in my dress," says Rachel. "I was so pleased I could finally show him. It was killing me! Also, the feeling of being full of love and happiness from everyone around me and how the day flowed. And the memory of running through fields to get amazing pictures!"

Remember…

"The stress is worth it. It will all come together and you'll forget about the little things that didn't happen. No matter what, people will have an amazing day."

Chloe's Woodland Festival Wedding

Setting: Woodland outdoor venue

Dress: Elton by Anna Sorrano

Style: Botanical, festival, relaxed

Chloe and Marc's favourite activities are BBQs on the beach and strolling through woodland. So, when the couple found Bower in The Woods, a romantic outdoor venue set in 80 acres of woodland in East Sussex, they realised it was perfect for their August wedding. "We had an outdoor ceremony, followed by a party with a festival woodland feel," says Chloe.

A simple, elegant wedding dress design

Chloe wore Elton, a modern strapless ballgown in sleek Mikado, which was the perfect contrast to the natural backdrop. "Elton was simple and classic and suited me and the venue perfectly. It really stood out against the green and the forest surroundings. I also bought my veil at wed2b. It was amazing, and really made the dress stand out, but not too much."

A laid-back wedding with a festival feel

"There were tables set up in the woodland and we served BBQ food which had been cooked on a converted VW Beetle," says Chloe. "The venue also had a Grand Hall with a domed ceiling for the evening party where we had a live band. The whole day was very chilled."

Botanical styling with soft pastel details

"The colour scheme was soft pastels and the theme was botanicals," says Chloe. "We got all the flower vases from charity shops and painted them, plus we made all the bunting ourselves."

The moments that mattered

"The most memorable moment of the whole day was getting married outside," says Chloe.

Remember…

"Do it yourself, don't fork out if you don't want to," says Chloe. "You have each other and it will be amazing."

Setting: Manor house with gardens

Dress: Rosalia by Viva Bride

Style: Timeless, romantic

Lauren and Adam combined sage greens and blush pinks for their elegant outdoor wedding day in Cheltenham. "Our venue, Manor by The Lake, was a beautiful manor house with lots of character and the grounds were absolutely gorgeous," says Lauren. "The weather was perfect for July. Warm, not too sunny and a few clouds, so ideal for photos. Also, most importantly, no rain!"

An unexpected dress choice

Lauren thought she wanted a mermaid-style dress but, after trying on a recommendation from her Bridal Expert, she fell in love with Rosalia, a bohemian A-line, instead. "I felt amazing in it," she says. "And, even better, it had fun pockets, too!"

Garden wedding inspiration with a timelessly elegant feel

Lauren's dad passed away unexpectedly not long before Adam proposed, so her brother walked her down the aisle. "We had a quick ceremony with not many vows, as we don't like speaking in front of people," she says. "It was perfect and just what we wanted."

The look of the day was timeless elegance, with colours of sage green, blush pink, stone and forest green. "We had caterpillar cakes for the wedding cake, a drinks wall and kids' games," says Lauren. "We also had a painted fingerprint tree for guests to sign instead of a traditional guest book."

The moments that mattered

"We had a memorial chair in honour of my dad," says Lauren. "I just loved the whole day from start to finish."

Remember…

"Just go with the things you want. Ultimately it's your day, so make sure all the elements are for you two."

Style: Rustic, green, relaxed

Jodey and William's rustic outdoor barn wedding was deliberately simple and focused on minimal stress and creating as much joy as possible. "The day was amazing. There aren't enough words!" says Jodey. "Magical, memorable, lively and just perfect. We couldn't have asked for a better day. Everyone was happy, no drama, just simplicity and love."

A flattering fitted mermaid dress

Jodey wore Stefano, an understated mermaid with modern cuff neckline. "Everyone was so lovely at the store and I found my dress the first time I visited," she says. "I loved how the shape looked on my body type. It was actually the complete opposite of what I imagined. I thought I wanted a lacy vintage style but fell in love with Stefano instead."

A relaxed rustic outdoor wedding

"I walked down the aisle to 'It's Always Been You' by Caleb Hearn with my lovely grandad," says Jodey. "And we had 'Signed Sealed Delivered' by Stevie Wonder as we left. I made all the decor myself and we added personalised signage. We made it just how we wanted by doing it ourselves."

The moments that mattered

"We took 20 minutes after our pictures to just be with each other in private," says Jodey. "It was good to just talk about how great the ceremony was and how grateful we felt for everyone and everything. Also, my step-son was our ring bearer, and he was amazing!"

Remember…

"Don't stress! We really didn't stress at all and just went with the flow and only planned what we wanted and what felt true to us."

Outdoor Wedding Dress Ideas for Summer Brides

Wedding dresses featured: Bel by Anna Sorrano and Hera by Viva Bride

When it comes to outdoor wedding dress ideas, lightweight fabrics such as chiffon, soft tulle or crepe, will feel breathable in warmer weather and create beautiful movement outdoors. A-line and flowing silhouettes are popular choices for summer brides too, while a supportive bodice offers extra comfort without feeling restrictive.

Comfort and practicality are also just as important as style. Whether you're walking across lawns, woodland paths or country fields, the right dress should help you move with confidence while keeping you cool throughout the day.

Plus, if you're wearing a train, consider choosing one that can be bustled for the evening, especially if your venue has grass or uneven ground. Finally, don't forget your footwear. Elegant flats, block heels or wedges can be much more practical than stilettos for outdoor ceremonies.

How to Style an Outdoor Summer Wedding

Grace and Jack's outdoor summer wedding styling
Grace and Jack

The best summer wedding ideas often work with the beauty of the setting rather than competing with it. So, keep your styling thoughtful and understated and allow the scenery to shine.

Try to…

  • Work with the natural surroundings.
  • Choose a colour palette inspired by the venue and seasonal backdrop.
  • Keep décor light and focused on key items.
  • Think about guest comfort (shade, seating, drinks).
  • Plan for weather changes.
  • Add personal touches (DIY, entertainment, meaningful details).
