The venue was also very special to the couple. "We've visited The Cliff Hotel in Gorleston many times over the years," says Cheryl. "It overlooks the bandstand where my grandad's memory plaque is and Karl's brother's memory bench is. It made us feel like they were both there with us on the day, so we knew it had to be The Cliff."

Their relationship had come full circle, as Cheryl and Karl first met at school. "We both left school and started families but our children went to school together, so we always kept in touch," says Cheryl. "We reconnected eight years ago, after both finding ourselves single again, and realised that we'd always had feelings for each other." 

On Christmas Day, in their first home together, Karl asked Cheryl to marry him. "It was actually a really sad Christmas," says Cheryl.
