Real Weddings Glasgow: Cheryl and Dean’s romantic New York wedding
Bright lights and a big city were the perfect backdrop for this couple’s idyllic New York wedding. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more:
Cheryl and Dean first met in a bar in March 2013. “We got chatting and discovered we lived on the same street, our mums used to work together and that we had also lived within 10 minutes of each other our entire lives!” laughs Cheryl.
Asking the big question
The couple were in Edinburgh to celebrate New Year when Dean proposed. “He got down on one knee within seconds of 2017 starting, in front of the massive crowds at the street party,” says Cheryl. “Safe to say I didn’t see a single firework for crying!”
Finding the perfect dress
Cheryl visited WED2B’s Glasgow store August 2018. “The Amore dress I eventually chose was one that the WED2B adviser recommended,” she says. “If she hadn’t suggested it I’d never have picked it myself. It felt amazing. I loved the buttons that went down the entire back of the dress. It fitted every part of my body perfectly and didn’t need a single alteration. It really was my dream dress."
A few added extras
“I also bought a diamante belt, which the adviser suggested, and it was perfect too!” says Cheryl. “It set off the entire dress. The experience was so relaxed, I enjoyed every single second. The staff were so kind and so knowledgeable. They knew exactly what would suit my shape and made the entire process seamless too.”
A New York wedding
“We became ‘The Andersons’ on 9th January 2019 in a New York wedding,” says Cheryl. “We were married in the City Clerk’s office before heading to Brooklyn Bridge for photographs. It was just the two of us on our wedding day and we had a reception for family later, when we were back home. We both decided we wanted to just go and do it and do it somewhere special. It was honestly amazing. New York City has a large part of our hearts.”
The big day
“I got my hair and make-up done in my hotel room while Dean waited in the bar,” says Cheryl. “When I was ready, we met in reception to a lovely applause from tourists and staff before heading to the Clerk’s office. We celebrated later by going for cocktails, eating burgers and ice-skating in Central Park. It was perfect. New York is full of characters. So many people stopped us on the streets for photos and to congratulate us. It was a surreal but an amazing experience."
"The most memorable moment was ice skating in Central Park, looking at the skyline and realising I was experiencing it with my husband!” says Cheryl.
