This couple travelled to Gibraltar for their elegant rose gold wedding. Our WED2B Real Weddings Southampton feature reveals more:
Charlotte and Kieran first met each other through friends at their local pub. “We then found out that we both worked at Peppa Pig World,” says Charlotte. Kieran proposed one Christmas. “We were both decorating the tree and he had written ‘Will you marry me?’ on a bauble,” says Charlotte. “As he turned it around he was on one knee. It was a complete surprise!”
Finding the dress
Charlotte headed to WED2B’s Southampton store to find her dream dress. “My store experience was so brilliant and personal,” she says. “I went dress shopping on my own and it was very quiet, so I had all the employees dressing me up with accessories. I was able to try on so many dresses, it was amazing and I eventually chose Summer by Heidi Hudson. It was absolutely perfect. I loved how light it was for our destination wedding and I loved the boho style crochet lace." Charlotte also wore her sister’s wedding veil and a pearl necklace that belonged to her Auntie, who passed away in March. "I bought a beautiful flower crown too, which was something I was adamant I wanted to wear," she says.
The couple were married on the 14th September 2018 at The Rock Hotel in Gibraltar. “We have family in Gibraltar and my parents also got married there, so we thought it would be great to continue the tradition,” says Charlotte. “The hotel was absolutely beautiful and we knew as soon as we saw the ceremony terrace that this would be our aisle.”
A beautiful rose gold wedding
“Our theme was rose gold and blush,” says Charlotte. “We love these colours together and when I found my flower crown in matching colours everything just fitted. We knew that, as we were having a wedding abroad, we didn't want to waste flowers. So we decided we would just decorate with balloons and it turned out beautifully.”
The big day
“The ceremony was beautiful,” says Charlotte. “My dad walked me down the aisle, with my lovely step dad doing a reading. The bridesmaids, flower girl and page boy walked down the aisle to a piano version of ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran and I walked in to a piano version of ‘Shape of You’, also by Ed Sheeran. My favourite memory was everyone turning around and then seeing Kieran at the end of the aisle.”
The ceremony was at 2pm and afterwards there was a drinks reception with a Spanish guitarist. The newlyweds then slipped away for a few photos before everyone sat down to the three-course wedding breakfast.
A taste of home
“We bought a three-tiered cake from Marks & Spencer, which my mother-in-law brought over to Gibraltar in her hand luggage,” sys Charlotte. “It was very risky but it looked beautiful in the end. We bought some flowers that morning, to match the rose gold wedding theme, which we just displayed on the cake. It was delicious.”
Dancing the night away
Straight after the meal the party kicked off with the couple’s first dance and then continued all the way through to 1am. “One of the most entertaining moments was our family dances!” laughs Charlotte. “There were all the classics; YMCA, Saturday Night and all that jazz!”
A day to remember
“There were so many memorable moments,” says Charlotte. “Our registrar got stuck in traffic and was 30 mins late! It made the wait very nerve racking. The highlights were the amazing speeches and also being allowed on to the Gibraltar runway by the police to have our personal photos taken. Our favourite moment though was just sitting at the table watching everyone laugh, smile and enjoy themselves.”
