Rebecca and Lance’s pretty summer barn wedding
This fun summer barn wedding mixed Australian and British flowers and ended with lots of dancing. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more…
Rebecca and Lance met while they were both backpacking in Vietnam. “Lance pulled up on his motorcycle at the hostel I was staying in, took off his helmet, shook our his hair, and that was it!” says Rebecca.
“We travelled together for the next two months through Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. I guess our first date was trekking through rice paddies, to a guide's house in northern Vietnam, where we stayed the night. It felt amazing to have met someone who radiated such joy to everyone he meets. He still does.”
A romantic Paris proposal
The couple had been together for about three years when Lance proposed. “I moved from Australia to live with him in the UK, and he took me to Paris just before Christmas in 2019,” says Rebecca. “Of all the beautiful places in Paris, he chose our hotel room to pop the question. It was absolutely perfect.”
Shopping for the dress
“My friend also bought her wedding dress from WED2B’s Camberley store, and recommended it highly,” says Rebecca. “When I went to purchase my dress with my five bridesmaids, the team at Camberley did not disappoint. My consultant made me feel totally at ease, and made it a fun experience.”
“I chose Florian for my gown,” says Rebecca. “I fell in love with her as soon as I met her. She made me feel like an absolute queen! Stunning silhouette and that neckline is to die for. I felt comfortable all day, and was able to dance freely in her, which was also a big plus point for me.”
A summer barn wedding
The couple got married on the 2nd June 2022, the Queen’s Jubilee weekend, at Herons Farm in Pangbourne, Berkshire. “We found them online, and loved the relaxed feel of the venue,” says Rebecca. “It also allowed for all the day’s events to be held in one place, and had accommodation for guests.”
The big day
“The weather was absolute perfection,” says Rebecca. “Blue skies all day, and hot, hot, hot. I got ready at the venue with my bridesmaids, and my family. My Dad walked me down the very emotional aisle, to the song ‘What Am I Without You?’ by The Eels. The most special moment of the ceremony was the poem that my mum read out. Not a dry eye in the house.”
Party time!
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed drinks, canapés and garden games on the lawn, while the newlyweds had photos taken. “Our first dance song was ‘I Like The Way This Is Going’, again, by The Eels,” says Rebecca. “It’s just a lovely, relaxed song about plodding through life together.”
An Oz meet UK theme
“Our theme was a mixture of Australian dried flowers, and British lush sprays,” says Rebecca. “ We had a hog roast for our meal and a classic Victoria sponge wedding cake (Lance’s favourite), which was also our pudding, served with fruit and cream.”
“Later in the evening, we had a great band (Tropic), who allowed my band to play one of our songs, which was fabulous!”
The best bits…
“The ceremony itself was wonderful, and I also loved having a blast cutting some serious shapes on the dance floor,” says Rebecca. “Then falling asleep with my friend’s guide dog on my lap at the end of the night.”
My top tips…
“Don’t get bogged down by the details,” says Rebecca. “The day will not be perfect, and you can't plan everything, so try to keep track of the bigger picture, and enjoy it!”
