These newlyweds celebrated with a rustic Cyprus wedding overlooking the Mediterranean...

Sabrina and Fraser met at work in May 2014. “For our first date we went for a Mexican meal” says Sabrina. “The restaurant was in an area that was a halfway point between where we lived and is now where we have a house!”

Fraser proposed at a sunset dinner on the beachfront in Negril, Jamaica. “It was actually my birthday and it looked like it was just a birthday dinner,” says Sabrina. “Fraser had decorated with balloons and avoided petals, so it didn't look too suspicious. I actually had no idea, as we had been together almost 10 years at this point, so I was completely surprised that it was happening!”

Shopping for the dress

“I visited wed2b after friends recommended it and also the Camberley store  is local to my house,” says Sabrina. “My experience was amazing. Michelle at the store was so lovely and made me feel very relaxed. She also helped me try on all the dresses I had in mind and suggested others for me.”

“I loved that you didn't feel like you were exposed when having to get undressed. It also felt very comfortable being able to try on the dresses without needing heels, as there were pods to stand on.”

A modern sheath style

Sabrina chose Maribel, a modern sheath with a hint of lace and a stylish cowl back. “It was simple but had a little lace detail at the back and front, which made it that bit more special,” she says. “I wanted a bandeau-style dress, so I just knew it was ‘The One’. I also bought a Fillipa veil, which I got embroidered with our initials, a low back Wunderskirt and a pearl Malone belt. Then I added pearl straps to match, which were attached onto the original spaghetti straps."

A rustic Cyprus wedding

“I definitely wanted it to be a wedding abroad, so I did some research online,” says Sabrina. “I knew it had to be a rustic Cyprus wedding, as I had visited the island before and found it very homely. We found a lovely stone and wood wedding venue, Liopetro in Kouklia near Paphos, with views of the Mediterranean.”

The big day

“On the day I got ready with my four bridesmaids, who were friends, and my niece who was my flower girl,” says Sabrina. “The weather was perfect, clear blue sky and very warm.”

“My dad walked me down the aisle,” says Sabrina. “Previously, we weren't sure he was going to make the day as, six weeks’ before he had a prostate enlargement scare.”

“A violinist played ‘I Feel It Coming’ by The Weekend and Daft Punk as background music while our guests arrived,” says Sabrina. “Then I walked in to Bob Marley’s ‘Is This Love?’, we signed the register to ‘Toto’ by Africa and then we left to the fast version of ‘Belong Together’ by Lucky Socks.”

Let’s celebrate

After the ceremony there was a cocktail reception with canapés and an ice cream cart. “Our wedding meal was a Cypriot BBQ buffet,” says Sabrina. “Later, our first dance was to ‘Joy Of My Life’ by Chris Stapleton. We both love a bit of soft country and find the lyrics to this song very meaningful.”

Sunshine yellows and soft greens

“Our theme was yellows and green, and we had an archway and tables with yellow flowers amongst green foliage,” says Sabrina. “There were also yellow chair covers with pearl details and a bright yellow telephone audio guestbook that I added pearls onto.”

“We had lots of DIY Touches too, and I made personalised lemon labels on shot-sized bottles which were filled up with limoncello for the adults. There were personalised activity packs for the children to keep them entertained at dinner, plus lottery tickets on a personalised card for the older children.”

“Our cake was decorated with pearl details and real flowers from my florist, and also layers of brownies and donuts,” says Sabrina. “Later, the entertainment included a violinist, live singer and a DJ. There were also garden games for the children."

The best bits…

“One of the standout moments was my mum's reaction when we did a 'First Look', as she wasn't able to be part of my bridal party,” says Sabrina. “Also, seeing all our friends and family together in one place, which will never happen again. I remember taking a moment to look at everyone as we sat as just us two on a sweetheart table.”

My top tips…

“Don't sweat the small stuff, as it really doesn't matter and none of your guests notice anyway!” says Sabrina.
