Schnapps, baklava and kilts reflected this happy couple’s Danish, Scottish and Tunisian heritage at their delightful countryside barn wedding.

Sarah and Ali met in Sheffield in 2011. “Ali was in the room next door in our student accommodation!” says Sarah. “We’ve been lucky and travelled to a lot of places but Sheffield has a special place in our hearts. Ali proposed in the Botanical gardens, in the spot where he first asked me to be his girlfriend years earlier.”

Shopping for the dress

Sarah found her dream dress in wed2b’s central London store. “A friend recommended wed2b to me after she bought her own wedding dress there,” she says. “I liked how easy and relaxed the experience was.”

Sarah chose Niah, an understated, off-the-shoulder sheath in soft crepe. “I wanted something fitted, classic and simple,” she says.

Countryside barn wedding

“We chose Fitzleroi Barn, a countryside barn wedding venue in the South Downs National Park, West Sussex,” says Sarah. “It’s set in the middle of gorgeous countryside and is over 400 years old. It was also close to Ali’s parents and where we live in Guildford. Our wedding date was 27th August."

The big day

“I got ready with my bridesmaids at a cottage close to the venue,” says Sarah. “I expected to be nervous but on the day I felt nothing but excitement! My dad walked me down the aisle - 20 minutes late, as he picked me up later than planned!”

Afterwards there was a drinks reception and canapés in the courtyard. “After a week of unseasonal rain, we were so lucky to have glorious sunshine all day,” says Sarah.

Sunny oranges

“The wedding colour scheme was orange,” says Sarah. “We’ve got Danish, Scottish and Tunisian heritage between us so we had small touches that reflected this on the day. These included shots of Schnapps, baklava and, of course, kilts!

The best bits…

“One of the most memorable moments of the whole day was my dad breaking into a dance, instead of the traditional father/daughter dance!” says Sarah.

My top tips…

“Simplify everything,” says Sarah. “As long as there's plenty of food, drink and great music, your guests will be happy!”
