A country wedding, complete with idyllic barn, picturesque rolling fields and a dreamy country wedding dress, is one of the most popular choices for our brides, and we can see why.

Countryside venues often have a lovely relaxed feel and are rich in history, with beautiful gardens and stylish or fun accommodation. Plus, as part of the look you also get to wear a beautiful rustic barn wedding dress with all the accessories to match!

Some of our real brides have got the rustic look just right. For example, James and Michelle chose a charming old mill in Nottinghamshire and completed the look with beautiful flowers in a mix of burgundy and blush.

Charlotte and Jake also went for an historic mill but their colour scheme was a wonderful mix of dusky blues, peaches and whites. Alternatively, Destiny and Joshua accessorised their hand-crafted wooden barn with bright yellow sunflowers, for a striking pop of colour.

Why choose a country wedding?

A lovely rustic venue often comes with a neutral colour scheme and natural walls and floors, offering a blank canvas for as much - or as little decor - as you want. It also works well with lots of different colour themes. You can go for elegant understatement and let the building’s character do all the work, try vintage chic with bunting and tea lights or go to town with fairy lights and tons of pink roses for charming fairytale prettiness. Mostly importantly, countryside venues often have an informal feel that appeals to modern brides looking for somewhere stylish but relaxed.

Now for the perfect country wedding dress…

For us, the quintessential country wedding dress is one that has an  effortlessness and a softness to it. Perhaps with touch of delicate lace, floaty off-the-shoulder straps or a lightweight skirt with plenty of unrestricted movement, to match the relaxed atmosphere. But, what do you think? There’s no wrong answer!

We’ve asked our instore experts to share their favourite country wedding dress below. We hope there’s one you like but do tell us if you have a favourite you think should be included...

Lashings of lace

Lace is always a good idea for a rustic style wedding dress and soft florals give the perfect country wedding vibe. Here they overlap the neckline and the delicate illusion straps before tumbling down the light tulle skirt, looking pretty as a picture.

Floaty but fitted

For more coverage choose an illusion back like this one, which has the added bonus of allowing the floral lace to ‘pop’ against the skin. Plus, if you want a floaty skirt, but also want to show off your figure, try this fit and flare style. It hugs the hips before cascading out into layers of soft tulle.

A romantic neckline

Off-the-shoulder straps are a big trend and the perfect way to add a modern twist to simple rustic wedding dresses. This tulle version also adds a pretty softness that flatters the arms and shows off the décolletage.

Modern elements

Countryside venues often combine classic and modern elements and your country wedding dress should do the same. This modern boho style mixes a contemporary leaf pattern and double waistband with a traditional A-line silhouette for the best of both worlds!

An Art Deco-inspired hair comb is a great choice if you’re going for a vintage theme. Alternatively, if florals are your thing, then try something like our Lila halo to match the florals in your dress.

Love the off-the-shoulder look? With our clever straps you can add that soft prettiness to any rustic barn wedding dress. Then, lastly, a belt is always a good idea to define your waist and break up your silhouette. Try our Malone belt, made with clusters of pearls, which is totally eye-catching and works beautifully with any style of dress.
