These newlyweds chose a country house wedding venue with a real Bridgerton feel for their stylish big day…

Cara and Jack first met at their best friend’s son's christening in 2013. “We were both 17,” says Cara. “Jack later proposed at Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland."

Shopping for the dress

Cara found her perfect dress at wed2b’s Newcastle store. “I visited wed2b after a friend recommended it to me,” she says. “I loved how you didn’t need an appointment and could go back anytime. You could also try on so many different styles.”

She chose Reid, a striking crepe sheath with an on-trend square neckline and low scooped back. "It looked exactly like a designer dress I had seen,” says Cara. “Although, when I tried it on, it actually looked better than the more expensive designer one! It was simple, classic and I loved the square neckline.”

A stylish country house wedding

The couple married at Wynyard Hall, an 18th century country house wedding venue, near Stockton-on-Tees. “I found it on TikTok and it had real Bridgerton vibes,” says Cara. “We love history and the place had everything; gardens, a lake, a spa, cottages on the grounds and the Glass House restaurant. It’s got something for everyone, so we booked it for 27th July.”

The big day

“I got ready with my bridesmaids, daughter (flower girl), flower guy, Mam and auntie in a cottage in the grounds of the venue,” says Cara. “The weather was a mix of sunshine, then rain, then back to sun again. The music for the ceremony included a piano version of ‘Edelweiss’, ‘Praise You’ by Fat Boy Slim and ‘I’m a Believer’ from the movie Shrek.”

“Afterwards we served drinks and canapés,” says Cara. “Then there was a wedding breakfast of soup, followed by lamb for the main course and cheesecake to finish. We didn’t have a first dance, we just got everyone on the dance floor together.”

Stylish soft greens and whites

“The colour scheme was greens and whites, and we made most of the decorations ourselves,” says Cara. “I designed all of the menus, table plan, etc, and got them printed. We also made our own fake cake. Jack made all the planters for the aisle, too. These were then filled by our florist, who set up everything we had made and added some extra amazing touches. In the evening we had a DJ and ‘Marryoke’ for entertainment.”

The best bits…

“The most memorable moment of the whole day was walking into the wedding breakfast with my new husband to ‘Praise You’ by Fat Boy Slim.”

My top tips…

“You can’t please everyone, so do what makes you happy!” says Cara.
