This beautiful townhouse wedding in Lewes was full of history and romance. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more…
Elize and Oliver met four years ago in the army reserves and they had their first date at their regiment’s summer function. “Oliver proposed to me on 8th February 2017, the day after my birthday,” says Elize. “We were in London for the weekend and he popped the big question while we were having dinner at The Shard."
A townhouse wedding venue
The couple married at the beautiful Pelham House hotel in Lewes. “One of the reasons we chose this townhouse wedding venue was because we love the history of Lewes,” says Elize. “The hotel had been renovated but it still had all the old features, along with beautiful gardens. Lewes Castle is also just up the road, so we could have photos taken there too. As soon as we walked into the venue's giant hall we knew that this was the one for us. It felt so welcoming and homely.”
The big day
The wedding was on Saturday 20th July 2019 and Elize wore WED2B’s Breanna dress. “We didn't have any readings but our vows meant so much and were so personal to us,” says Elize. “My father walked me down the aisle to ‘A Thousand Years’ by The Piano Guys and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!”
Navy and blush pink
The theme for the day was very elegant to suit the townhouse wedding venue. “The colour scheme was navy and blush pink,” says Elize. “We had crystal candelabras as our centrepieces, decorated with cream flowers, and there were also blush pink roses. My bouquet also included white peonies and it had three photos of loved ones, who aren't with us any more, wrapped around it, so they could still be there in some way. The three-tier wedding cake was made by my grandmother and was decorated with navy ribbon.”
Family and friends
“The biggest highlight was being able to have everyone we loved at our ceremony from near and far,” says Elize. “My auntie even came all the way from Australia!”
My top tips…
“If you’re buying your dress from WED2B take a look on the website first and have a few different dresses in mind,” says Elize. “My Breanna dress wasn’t actually the style of dress I was going for, but I loved it!”
