Real Weddings Nottingham: Vicki and Tom’s rustic farm wedding
This relaxed farmhouse wedding came together in just four months. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more…
“Tom and I lived a few roads apart from each other but we weirdly never knew each other,” says Vicki. “We only really started speaking after we bumped into each other at a bar and recognized one another. Seven years later… here we are!”

A sunset proposal
Tom proposed in July 2018 in Santorini. “It’s a magical place,” says Vicki. “He created a memory book and gave it to me in our private flat. When I got to the final page, he got down on one knee and there was the all important question! He then gave me a dress that he’d bought before the holiday and said he had booked a restaurant to watch the stunning Santorini sunset. Amazing!”

Vicki bought her dress at WED2B’s Nottingham store. “I only took my mother with me and we had the best experience,” she says. “The staff were so friendly and helpful. I said yes to Archer, the third dress I tried on.” (For similar styles try Paola, Natalie or Brixton)

A change of date and country…
“To cut a long story short, due to COVID, our eventual wedding day was actually on our third date and in our second country,” says Vicki. “Originally we were due to get married in Ireland in August 2020 but we had to keep postponing. Eventually, we decided to change this to have a small intimate wedding in Devon and arranged a whole new wedding in four months!”
Glamping and a ‘hobbit’ house
“As it was a very stressful journey, we wanted a relaxed venue where we could add our own touches. We chose Higher Holcombe, a cute barn in Honiton, Devon, that included a farmhouse and glamping accommodation. The best part was that the bride and groom also get to stay in a ‘hobbit house’ for the night of the wedding! We finally got married on 20th May 2021.”

The big day
"I loved the morning of our wedding,” says Vicki. “I woke up in the farmhouse with my mother and bridesmaids and then spent the morning getting pampered. My father then joined us, before we all travelled to the church in a vintage VW camper van.”
After the ceremony everyone headed back to the venue for photos, canapés and bubbly. “Our main meal was a BBQ inside, as the weather wasn’t nice and it rained a lot!” says Vicki. “The speeches were short and sweet, then we had our first dance.”

"As we were unable to get married in Ireland, we chose green, white and gold decor and flowers to celebrate my Irish heritage,” says Vicki.
“Our favours included a scratch card for the men and wildflower seeds for for the women. Tom and I decided to have stacks of cheese as our cake, as we love cheese. It was amazing!"

"We didn’t have a band, due to restrictions, so we asked our guests to send songs and created a playlist to suit everyone’s taste in music. Then we danced the night away while enjoying pizza from a pizza van, which went down a treat!”

My top tips…
“Enjoy every moment, as the day goes incredibly fast!”

Vicki’s Dream Team
“As we only had four months to plan a whole new wedding, I had to do a lot of Instagram searching,” says Vicki. “Our suppliers were amazing and very patient with us.”
