Floating candles, fairy flower girls and Tinker Bell shoes were the order of the day at this fantastical reception. Our WED2B Real Weddings Somerset feature reveals more:
Katie and Neil first met when they were both 17 but it was a little while before they got engaged. “Twelve years later, two children, a dog and a mortgage and he finally asked!” laughs Katie. “We actually booked the wedding a year before the proposal, when I was pregnant with our second child. Neil eventually got down on one knee at the top of Werneth Low, a big hill near Manchester.”
Dream dress shopping
Katie can sum up her WED2B experience in just three words, “Fabulous! Loved it!” she says. She visited our bridal store in Bolton and found her dream dress “I wore Belle and it’s the most beautiful dress ever! The train is stunning and I felt like a true princess for the day.”
Lakeside romance
The venue was Mill Meadow Eco Lodges in Taunton, Somerset. “A family friend owns the lodges and we’ve holidayed there often,” says Katie. “They are the most beautiful log cabins surrounding a lake, so we simply added a marquee for the reception. The theme was fairy tales and we decorated the venue ourselves. There were handmade wooden signs, fairy garden centrepieces and my flower girls were little fairies. I also wore specially made shoes with Tinker Bell on them.”
Following a ceremony at Taunton Register Office guests returned to enjoy Pimms, followed by a hog roast, ice creams, sweets and games. Katie created a homemade photo booth area with vintage frames and props where guests could take polaroid pictures for the guest book. There was also a beautiful cake, with tiers of chocolate, vanilla and lemon, and later in the evening a van arrived to keep everyone going with posh fish and chips.
A weekend wonderland
Once the sun set and the dancing started beautiful floating candles were placed on the lake. “So we danced the night away in fairyland and lived happily ever after!” says Katie. “Guests stayed in the lodges and all of our wedding party had a giant picnic the day after and a huge game of rounders. It was a wonderful wedding, every single part of it was fun!”
