These newlyweds decided to keep their special day small and romantic with an Edinburgh elopement at Christmas…

Samantha and Scott had their first date at the Christmas market in Edinburgh five years ago. “It was on the 1st December and we’ve since made it a thing to go every year on that date,” says Samantha. “Scott later proposed when we were visiting Loch Lomond, a place we go to a lot. We walked to a quiet spot near Cameron House where he popped the question.”

Shopping for the dress

“I came across wed2b online, before finding my dream dress at the Glasgow store” says Samantha. “They couldn’t have been any nicer and I tried on about five dresses. I didn’t feel rushed at all and the staff made the experience lovely.”

Samantha chose Delana, a modern tea-length dress with a stylish cuff neckline and bouncy Mikado skirt by Anna Sorrano. “I went for a tea-length because it was an Edinburgh elopement in the city chambers, so a chic, shorter style felt very fitting. I also added a bow, as we had bows throughout the wedding theme and it finished the dress off nicely.”

An Edinburgh elopement

The couple got married on 1st December 2024. “We decided to make our fifth anniversary extra special by having a small ceremony and then walking through the Christmas market,” says Samantha. “Edinburgh is a place we love to visit regularly. So, we had a secret wedding with only 15 people attending at the city chambers and I loved everything about it. The city was the perfect backdrop.”

The big day

“We were lucky with the weather, as it had been raining, but it stopped and became bright and dry,” says Samantha. “I got ready in my apartment at the Cheval Old Town Chambers Hotel, which had a balcony that overlooked the Christmas market. At the ceremony, my mum walked me down the aisle, as we lost my dad 10 years ago.”

Time to hit the town...

“After the ceremony, we had our drinks reception and wedding meal at Luckenbooths on the city’s Royal Mile, as most of the guest were staying at the Cheval apartments above. Then, after our meal and a quick dress change, we headed out into Edinburgh.”

An elegant black and white colour theme

"We had black ribbons with names on for the place names and white roses,” says Samantha. “There were also cookie favours and all the centrepieces were set up by my bridesmaids. The wedding cake was a cream heart with 'Just Married’ written across it in black.”

The best bits…

“The most memorable moment was walking through Edinburgh and the Christmas market in our little bubble with my new husband,” says Samantha.

My top tips…

“Think of the venue when picking your dress,” says Samantha. “Try on every style once and don’t feel rushed.”
