2020 Wedding Dress Trends: Colourful wedding dresses
Daring to try something different? Then you’re not alone! Oyster, blush and champagne dresses are all increasing in popularity, according to our latest wedding report. 4.4% of brides voted for oyster and 7% of brides voted for a champagne wedding dress. In first place was blush, with 10% of savvy brides voting for this soft shade, no doubt because they know just how flattering it is!
So, don’t let tradition limit your wedding dress choice to just ivory and white. Colourful wedding dresses can be as subtle or as bold as you like, with everything from delicate pastel shades to statement red or black dresses an option this season. Here are three subtly-coloured styles to start the ball rolling…
Colour me beautiful
Our stunning Grady ball gown is one of our Platinum Edition dresses and features oodles of pearls, beading, lace and more. Plus it’s also available in either soft blush or stylish ivory.
The gorgeous lace bodice has pretty cap sleeves and an off-the-shoulder neckline that flatters the décolletage to perfection. The modern lace is just exceptional and includes beautiful 3D florals, alongside plenty of beaded embellishment, pearls and iridescent sparkle. The back has luxurious lacing for a touch of retro romance and then there’s that train! Grady does have the ultimate ball gown skirt, with lace appliqués tumbling down to the sumptuous lace hem. It’s just breathtaking and the perfect way to try out the new blush trend!
A shining Star
Delightful Star shows why flattering coloured dresses are one of the key 2020 wedding dress trends. It features off-the-shoulder straps, alongside a stunning ball gown skirt, all in a ravishing shade of blush. It’s a shape that suits all figures and it also comes in ivory too, so you can pick the perfect shade for your skin tone.
Tulle, beading and plenty of bounce
The sweetheart bodice is a classic style. Combined with the voluminous skirt, it also helps to create the perfect waistline. Then simply add our gorgeous sparkling Nova belt and all eyes will be drawn to it! The ruching on the bodice is super flattering too and we just adore the romantic straps. Princess brides will love the glittery tulle underlayer too, which gives the whole dress just the right amount of sparkle! Wear with tumbling tresses and our pretty Autumn halo. Make sure you try it with our 163 underskirt too, to give the bouncy skirt even more movement and volume.
Amber is a gorgeous contemporary ball gown in sumptuous Mikado fabric. It also comes in two beautiful shades; classic ivory or soft and pretty blush. The shimmering fabric needs little embellishment, so we’ve simply added a touch of beading to the striking, catwalk-style double straps.
Fabric with wow factor
Turn around and you’ll reveal the straps in all their glory. Then a row of eye-catching crystal buttons completes the look. The luxurious Mikado fabric is perfect for the show-stopping ball gown skirt and the box pleats here are an elegant way to add fullness. Try wearing this with our 163 underskirt too, for maximum volume. We think this dress looks amazing with a little extra sparkle as well, so just add our stylish Estella belt and our classic Regency tiara.
2020 Wedding Dress Trends: Key design features
We also asked you what details you’d love to see on your dream dress and there were some outright winners, such as pockets, ruffles, back details and, most importantly, lace. 37% of our brides voted for lace as a key element, while 32% said that plenty of beautiful back detail was essential. Finally, 6% of you voted for pockets, for that all-important hankie or lipgloss!
Elliot is a Platinum Edition fishtail design that’s all about beautiful, on-trend lace. It also comes in both blush and ivory, so you can nail the colour trend too! Covered from head to toe in luxurious lace, this stunning dress is guaranteed to make a statement. The fashion-forward brides who completed our 2020 Wedding Dress Trends Survey will also adore the exposed boning in the bodice, as well as the 3D floral appliqués.
At the back, there are more exquisite 3D florals, as well as a practical and pretty row of covered buttons. There are so many ways to style this dress that you’ll be spoilt for choice. Add extra volume by doubling up on our 189 and 190 underskirts. Then try it with our amazing Solstice belt and elegant Willa veil, along with a few Honey hairpins tucked into a half up/half down hairdo.
Pocketful of Dreams
Glorious Grady not only works with the colourful dresses trend, but it also has another on-trend secret. Pockets! This ultimate ball gown skirt looks divine and also hides snug pockets for any big day essentials you might want to keep close to hand. What can we say? This is the perfect dress!
In love with lace
Emmy is ideal for the lace-loving brides who responded to our 2020 Wedding Dress Trends Survey. This fabulous A-line gown has a gently dipped bodice covered with delicate beaded lace and sparkling beads, for just the right amount of shimmer.
The sumptuous skirt flares out beautifully, ending in more stunning lace at the hem. Wear it with our 190 underskirt for even more wow factor as you swish down that aisle. There’s also luxurious ribbon lacing, which helps to give the perfect fit. For a pretty princess feel, this dress looks amazing worn with our vintage-feel Regency tiara.
2020 Wedding Dress Trends: The finishing touches
It's a tie! It was a pretty close call between hair combs, tiaras and flowers as your perfect accessory. 21% of brides voted for hair combs, 20% voted for tiaras and 19% of you voted for flowers. We think, why not keep it simple and have all three! Here are our top picks…
Our brand new Alpha hair slide is chic, simple and oh-so-stylish. Channelling the feel of the glorious Art Deco era, it’s entirely covered with intricate glittering gemstones that sparkle and shine from every angle. This hair slide’s eye-catching finish means it’s a great match for any of our Amixi veils. And, if you love your sparkle, why not try wearing it with a tiara too, to create an extra glam look that your guests will love?
A boho beauty
Our amazing Calli hair vine is one of a kind. It’s a delicate and unique hair vine with a stunning leaf design that trails beautifully through the hair. It comes in both gold and silver and features beautiful pearls and crystals along its entire length. It’s ideal for boho brides who are going for a relaxed, carefree style. Here we’ve worked it through a pretty twisted updo before trailing it seductively down the back of the neck.
Alternatively, try running it through a romantic boho plait, peeking out here and there with a little pretty shimmer.
Our stunning Odetta hair comb features pearls, gems and crystals in an exquisite floral pattern. It’s a gorgeous and easy-to-wear addition to any updo and looks amazing worn with one of our Amixi veils. Here we’ve styled it to one side of a chic chignon for a classically romantic look. It’s a very versatile piece of hair jewellery which can easily be worn again after the big day too, maybe for your first anniversary!
