Wedding Dress Trends 2020: It’s all about A-lines

It’s no surprise that our brides are in love with A-lines! 39% of you told us you’re choosing this super flattering shape for the big day.

It’s easy to see why A-lines get an A-star grade from our brides, too. If you’re not sure where to start with silhouettes, then the universally flattering A-line is the one to try first. Fitted at the chest to highlight your narrowest point, this style flows out gradually into an ‘A’ shape. The balanced proportions work brilliantly to draw the eyes upwards. It also creates a beautiful nipped in waist, meaning it's great for every figure, especially apple and rectangle shapes.

Oh-so handsome Henny

Henny ticks all the boxes when it comes to the perfect A-line style. The slim skirt is made from the softest chiffon, while the beautiful three-quarter-length sleeves have delicate floral lace motifs. The bodice is covered in more pretty lace and also features embroidery tape around the waist, which is another of the key wedding dress trends 2020 has to offer. The plunging V-neckline adds a nice touch of glamour and is balanced out by the full coverage from the delicate sleeves.

The prettiest lace

Turn around and the back is just as beautiful. There’s more embroidery tape edging the low V-neck, alongside pretty appliqués and a row of stylish covered buttons. This whimsical design looks great with a few equally delicate accessories, such as our Colby belt and a pretty Calli hair vine. You can also add our 189 underskirt for a little more volume or wear it without an underskirt for a softer look.

Romantic Florence

The A-line lovers who completed our Wedding Dress Trends 2020 Survey will adore this super-soft design, especially when they realise you can choose between ivory and blush! The sweetheart bodice features a new style of corset that’s super flattering and bang on-trend. There are also embroidered floral lace motifs scattered prettily up the bodice and across the waistline.

Exquisite embroidery

The eyelet and shoestring back are perfectly designed to pull the dress in for a great fit and adds a touch of fairy tale charm to the whole look. This design also taps into another key trend, creating two looks in one. For the daytime, wear this with our pretty Matilda headband and soft Willa veil. Then, for a more glamorous evening look, add our dramatic feather bolero and a sparkling Solstice belt.

Based on the results of our survey, Liana, from our Viva Bride collection, will be a surefire hit! This romantic A-line design comes in the softest blush colour and features layers of beautiful lace. It really is breathtaking and it’s the perfect look for a modern princess bride. The V-neck bodice is covered with exquisite corded lace appliqués and the wide lace straps are perfect for brides who want a little extra coverage and support.

Then add our Estella belt to draw attention to your waist and you’re ready to go!

Wedding Dress Trends 2020: Classic princess or boho?

It’s the ultimate fairy tale! In our Wedding Dress Trends 2020 Survey, 36% of brides said they love a classic princess style. Boho was our brides’ second favourite look. It just goes to show that beautifully classic wedding gowns really do stand the test of time and that something chic and elegant, that highlights your natural beauty, will always be a good choice. Here are a few of our faves…

A traditional beauty

Laurenza is a classic design with a sophisticated feel. This dress is all about luxurious, romantic lace, from the stunning three-quarter-length sleeves right down to the indulgent lace hem. The design incorporates two layers of lace, both Chantilly and embroidered. And, if you look closely, you can see that the neckline and the ends of the sleeves are finished with delicate Chantilly eyelash lace too. The pretty sleeves are also perfect for brides wanting to cover that tricky upper arm area.

Layers of lace

At the back, there’s more beautiful illusion lace and a high neckline for plenty of modest coverage. The pretty row of covered buttons also provides a stylish focal point. The skirt is a soft fit and flare silhouette that will pool beautifully on the floor around you. This style speaks for itself, so just wear it with an elegant updo and a pair of statement earrings.

Sophisticated chic

Our beautiful Carmela dress is full of romance and the perfect example of a classic princess wedding dress. There are delicate floral corded lace appliqués across the entire bodice and the soft, illusion lace neckline is perfect for brides who want plenty of coverage. The wide straps here offer good support while showing off attractive arms to the full. Wear this style with our 163 underskirt to make the floaty skirt ‘pop’ and give the look a touch of film star style.

Old Hollywood magic

At the back, there’s more of that breathtaking lace and a pretty row of covered buttons, which help to give the perfect fit. It’s an elegantly modest design with more than a touch of that iconic Grace Kelly glamour. Accessorise this dress with our glittering Estella belt and our classic Maisie veil, edged in delicate corded lace. Then complete the look with our classic Regency tiara.

A modern classic

Finally, we have Tara, another of Anna Sorrano’s timeless wedding dresses. This design combines an elegant ball gown skirt in luxurious satin with a flattering pleated bodice that helps to highlight natural curves. This bodice and skirt combination is great for all figures, which explains its popularity in our Wedding Trends 2020 Survey! The off-the-shoulder straps are also perfectly placed to flatter the upper arms and show off the décolletage.

Dress it up or down

You can have some fun accessorising this pared-down design. Keep it simple or go to town, whatever you prefer! We think it looks amazing with our traditional Regency tiara and our romantic, satin-edged Loulou veil, which are a great match for this understated look.

Wedding Dress Trends 2020: The dream dress budget

One of the key results from our WED2B Wedding Dress Trends 2020 Survey is how much you’re happy to spend on your dream dress. For many brides, after marrying the love of your life, of course, the big day is all about the dress! And every woman should be able to walk down the aisle wearing something amazing, regardless of her budget. Thankfully, the pressure to spend eye-watering amounts of money on something you only wear once is dwindling. And, with the average cost of weddings increasing, savvy brides are realising they can spend less but still have the dress of their dreams.

The results are in...

So, it’s no surprise that our Wedding Dress Trends 2020 Survey reveals that 17% of brides are willing to spend between £300 and £500 on their dress, which is a rise of 6% from last year. Our WED2B brides know that they can have a stunning luxury dress whatever their budget! Here are some gorgeous options that won’t break the bank…

Breathtaking Ashley

Your guests would be amazed to know that this sophisticated A-line design cost less than £500! The stylish pleated waistband is totally on-trend and also highlights and defines the waist perfectly. We love the draped shoulders too, which are great for softy covering and flattering the upper arms. Ashley's understated styling and uncomplicated, whimsical design will ensure you look and feel like a million dollars as you walk down that aisle!

Great value design

Turn around and the simple styling continues with a stunning plunging back. It’s revealing but still offers plenty of gentle coverage when combined with the floaty sleeves. Wear with long flowing hair and a delicate halo to complete the look. The soft chiffon skirt has a rolled hem finish for a clean-cut feel, plus there’s also no need to wear an underskirt, so you can feel gorgeous, unencumbered and free all day long!

Boho brilliance

Billie is another ravishing design that won’t blow your budget. You’ll feel like you're floating in this super-soft, bohemian tulle gown from the Heidi Hudson range. This design's nature-inspired embroidery is complemented beautifully by a soft illusion neckline and plunging, low back. The bodice is also embellished with eye-catching pearls and beads.

Perfect for any setting

This slim A-line skirt ticks both the A-line and budget boxes from our Wedding Dress Trends 2020 Survey. The 'circle cut' skirt needs no underskirt either and is beautifully voluminous without any bulking at the waist. This is a look that’s equally at home in a grand manor house or a fairytale woodland. Plus, if you’re planning to marry abroad, it’s lightweight, cool and easy to travel with.

Beautiful embellishment

Then there’s Dylan, which costs less than £400 and is the ideal marriage of comfort and style, perfect for all our Wedding Dress Trends 2020 brides! Super lightweight and easy to wear, the embellished straps and beautiful lace drapes ensure that this design stands out from the crowd. The entire dress is covered with an elegant layer of fine lace that gives it an understated and subtly stylish feel. The sheath silhouette also means that this dress hugs the curves without feeling restrictive.

Understated allure

The back features a sexy dipped V-neck and a concealed zip that’s comfortable and practical. The simple skirt is also a dream for showing off your curves and there’s no need to wear an underskirt with this floaty style. We recommend keeping your accessories lightweight and simple, to match the dress. A floral hair vine or a sprinkling of pretty pins should do the trick, alongside an unfussy, glittery belt.

Also, if you fancy copying the celebrity trend of a new dress for the evening, then this is the perfect choice for an affordable second dress. You’ll feel like a princess in this 1950s’ style, tea-length design. With its A-line skirt and softly ruched tulle, it’s a modern take on a classic look. This is a dress that’s designed for fun!

The neat zip fastening gives a comfortable and stylish fit and ensures the bodice hugs curves perfectly before flaring out into that fabulous skirt. Lola is the perfect blank canvas for a range of gorgeous accessories too. We love it with our unique Nova belt, which will highlight your waist and our elegant Regency tiara. You can accentuate the 1950s feel too, by wearing this with our shorter, elbow-length Langley veil. Then you're ready to party the night away!
