A long sleeve wedding dress and a dreamy October day…
Katie and Elliot’s delightful twilight wedding near Derby
These newlyweds kept it simple with elegant green decor, relaxed evening food and a striking long sleeve wedding dress to suit the season…
Katie and Elliot met at a local club in Derby nine years ago. “Our first date was to George's Restaurant,” says Katie.
Elliot proposed while the couple were on holiday in Tenerife. “It was a complete surprise,” says Katie. “We were on a long overdue holiday after we both got new jobs/finished degrees. One evening, we were casually having drinks on our balcony and listening to music. I went to the room, returned and couldn't see Elliott on the balcony any more. Then I realised he was on one knee with a gorgeous ring!”
The perfect long sleeve wedding dress
Katie found her dream dress at wed2b Derby. “The staff were very friendly and accommodating,” she says. “I couldn’t have asked for more. It was the first time I'd tried on dresses and I had no idea what style to go for. After talking for a while, the assistant pulled out a long sleeve wedding dress she thought would suit me (and it was a favourite of her’s too). I tried it on and I knew straight away!”
Katie chose Ellwood, a long sleeve wedding dress with a fitted crepe skirt and beautiful lace illusion back. “Our late October wedding meant a long sleeve wedding dress was a must,” she says. “It flattered my body shape, while being classy and comfortable. The sheath style was also perfect for me. To go with it, I also bought hair accessories, a veil and an underskirt.”
A low-key wedding venue
The couple married at The Folly at The Farmhouse, Derby, on 28th October. “It’s local to my parents’ home with beautiful buildings and rooms,” says Katie. “It was also ideal for the relaxed wedding we wanted.”
The big day
“I got ready with my Mum and maid of honour at my parents’ house,” says Katie. “My Dad and brother were there too. The weather was beautiful, unlike the weather previously that week, and it stayed dry to do the confetti and outdoor shots. Dad walked me down the aisle to 'Tenerife Sea' by Ed Sheeran. The reading 'From Your Friends and Family' was given by my close friend. Then I walked out of the ceremony to 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' by The Darkness.”
A twilight wedding
After the ceremony there were drinks and canapés in the library, while the newlyweds had photos taken. “We didn’t have wedding breakfast, as it was twilight wedding” says Katie. “Food was served in the evening at 7pm. Our first dance song was 'Sky Full of Stars' by Coldplay. We love the words and how uplifting it was for us and the special moments we've had to it.”
Stylish greens
“The wedding theme was elegant greens and our cake was three-tiers decorated with pearls, each with a different flavour,” says Katie. “Later there was also a DJ to get everyone dancing.”
The best bits…
“The most memorable moment of the whole day was the speeches,” says Katie. “I did one (Elliott is a man of few words). This way I could talk about his beloved mum, who couldn't be present. My dad also did a heartfelt speech, whilst his brother (best man) had everyone howling with laugher while he was elaborating on our first meeting.”
My top tips...
“Just go to wed2b!” says Katie. “They'll quickly see your style and will easily be able to accommodate you and your wishes with such a wide range of dresses.”
