How we met and fell in love

Meeting by chance

Rachel and Andrew’s story began entirely by chance. Rachel worked in a salon, while Andrew lived in the flat above, yet their paths had never crossed. “However, one day in 2013 he came in to find the salon owner,” says Rachel. “She wasn’t there that day, which was lucky as she was always in. We got speaking and hit it off instantly.”

A first kiss in Blackpool

“I was having a down day and Andrew offered to cheer me up by taking me to Blackpool to see the lights,” says Rachel. “He knew I loved to go every year and see them. So, we did the usual walk around, going in the arcades and eating fish and chips by the lights. Then, at the end of the night, we went on the big wheel and had our first kiss.”

A Christmas proposal at home

Andrew proposed in December 2017, surprising Rachel at home with an early gift just days before Christmas. “We had a romantic date night at home, just me, him and Max, our Westie,” says Rachel. “He cooked me a gorgeous candle-lit dinner and popped the question beautifully.”

Finding my wed2b wedding dress

Visiting the Bolton store

Rachel visited the wed2b Bolton store after hearing about the brand through her sister-in-law. From the start, the experience felt calm and supportive. “It was lovely,” she says. “The sales assistant was so patient. She fully listened to my thoughts and ideas and helped pick my gorgeous dress. She also introduced me to a totally unexpected design.”

Choosing the Jules dress by Sofia Cruz

Rachel chose Jules by Sofia Cruz, a gathered Mikado ballgown with pockets. “She was completely different to what I thought I would go for,” Rachel explains, “She was big, simple, elegant and she made my waist look snatched!”

Completing the look with sleeves and veil

Rachel enhanced her look with Maggie sleeves, an underskirt and a full-length Fillipa veil, to create an outfit that was perfectly suited to her elegant hotel wedding day.

Why we chose a hotel wedding venue

Discovering the Mercure Georgian House Hotel

Rachel discovered the Mercure Georgian House Hotel, a Georgian manor house overlooking the spectacular West Pennine Moors, through a venue stylist’s social media. After visiting and meeting the wedding planner, the decision was easy. “Our wedding planner, Rochelle, was absolutely amazing throughout the whole process,” says Rachel.

Planning the wedding in five months

The venue offered elegance, flexibility and a calm atmosphere. For Rachel and Andrew, that made hotel wedding planning feel much easier. “I only booked five months before our big day and Rochelle organised everything perfectly and took all the stress away from me. She was fabulous and I couldn't recommend her or the venue more. Having a hotel venue made it possible to bring everything together quickly and efficiently.”

Getting ready and the ceremony

Getting ready with bridesmaids and family

“On the morning of the wedding I had my five beautiful bridesmaids by my side and my gorgeous mam,” says Rachel. “We were at the venue all day, so it was really relaxed.” Despite storms the day before and after, the wedding day itself was bright and dry.

Walking down the aisle and ceremony music

Rachel walked in with her father, “He was so proud and it was an honour to have him walk me down the aisle,” she says. A live singer performed throughout the ceremony, and for the bride’s entrance she sang ‘Forever and Ever and Always’  by Ryan Mack.

She also sang 'Always Remember Us This Way' and ‘Die With a Smile’ by Lady Gaga for signing the registrar. To exit, the newlyweds ended with something a little more upbeat, ‘Right By Your Side’ by N-Force. “Our ceremony was beautiful, I loved our dip kiss at the end of the aisle,” says Rachel.

Celebrating our hotel wedding

Drinks, mingling and wedding breakfast

After the ceremony, Rachel and Andrew mingled with guests over champagne before sitting down to a carvery-style wedding breakfast served at the table.

First dance and evening moments

Their first dance was to ‘Sapphire’ by Ed Sheeran, “We love to travel around India and Asia and the song takes us back to happy times we’ve had travelling,” says Rachel. “Later, my dad's speech was so emotional it had the whole room crying.”

Personal touches that elevated our day

Black and white styling

Rachel and Andrew chose a black-and-white colour theme, giving it a modern twist with dramatic white feather centrepieces instead of traditional florals.

DIY signage and personalised details

Personalisation was woven throughout the day. Rachel designed a six-foot welcome sign incorporating the order of the day and table plan. Table names reflected countries the couple had visited together, complete with photographs, and menus were personalised with guests’ names and finished with a feather and a custom R&A stamp.

Advice for future wed2b brides

Rachel’s advice is simple and reassuring:

  • Don’t overthink.
  • Don’t feel pressured.
  • Don’t be afraid to think outside the box.
  • The day is about celebrating your relationship, not pleasing others.
  • Remember, you’re there to celebrate the love you have for each other.

FAQs

What is a hotel wedding?

A hotel wedding is a wedding held at a hotel venue, where the ceremony, reception, food and often guest accommodation are all provided in one place. Hotel weddings are popular because they can simplify planning and make the day feel seamless for both couples and guests.

Why do couples choose a hotel wedding venue?

Couples choose a hotel wedding venue because it combines ceremony, reception, catering and guest accommodation all in one place. Many hotels also provide experienced wedding planners, making coordination even easier and often reducing stress.

What should you wear to a hotel wedding?

What you wear depends on your personal style, the style of the hotel and the formality of the event. An elegant hotel wedding often suits timeless gowns, structured silhouettes or classic fabrics like Mikado or satin. City-centre venues may call for glamorous or black-tie styling, while informal boutique hotels can suit softer, more relaxed looks.

How can you personalise a hotel wedding?

You can personalise a hotel wedding through décor choices, custom signage, meaningful music and table styling. Personal touches, such as named menus, travel-themed tables or statement centrepieces, help transform a hotel ballroom into a unique celebration space that reflects your story.

Can you plan a hotel wedding in a short timeframe?

Yes, planning a wedding at a hotel venue can work well on a shorter timeline. Many services are coordinated in-house, which can make decision-making easier and reduce supplier management. With an experienced on-site planner, couples can organise an elegant hotel wedding in just a few months.

Are hotel weddings easier to plan?

Yes, hotel weddings are often easier to plan because many services are coordinated in one place. With catering, event space, accommodation and planning support often handled in-house, couples can save time and reduce the number of separate suppliers they need to manage.
