Becky and Tom’s Lord of the Rings wedding
These newlyweds added subtle touches from their favourite story for their Lord of the Rings wedding. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more…
Becky and Tom met for their first date in February 2018 in Flore, a small village in Northamptonshire. “We went for a meal and a drink and the rest is history,” says Becky.
“We originally matched on Tinder in January 2018, so we were talking for a few weeks beforehand. I didn’t hold out much hope to be honest, as I’d only heard negative stories about online dating. Tom was my first date (and I was his)!”
A Yorkshire proposal
The couple had been together for just over two years when Tom proposed.
"He proposed in August 2020, while we were on holiday in North Yorkshire with our dog, Mac,” says Becky. “We were staying in a little cottage and my mum and stepdad were staying in the cottage next door. Tom proposed in the morning, before we had a day of sightseeing planned. It was perfect. We then enjoyed a roast dinner and drinks with my mum and stepdad in our cottage that night."
Shopping for the dress
“I heard about WED2B from my mum, as her friend had used them,” says Becky. “We had the best experience ever! The lady at the Milton Keynes’ store was so helpful and really took the time to listen to what I wanted. We were there for a good couple of hours and I tried on about four dresses.”
“My dress was one I had saved on Pinterest as soon as we got engaged,” says Becky. “Although, I never thought I’d go for it. However, they had it in store and it was the first dress I tried on. I instantly fell in love. Then I tried on a few others, to be sure it wasn’t just the feeling of trying on a dress. I loved the classic style it had. It was so plain yet so beautiful and one that will never go out of style. My veil, tiara and headpiece were also from WED2B.”
Becky chose Florian by Anna Sorrano as her dream dress. (For similar styles try Preston, Cortez or Ravenna)
A farm wedding venue
The couple got married at Crockwell Farm in Northamptonshire. “We chose it because it was so us. It was in the middle of the countryside and we could also have exclusive use for the whole weekend. We got married on the 10th September 2022.”
A subtle Lord of the Rings wedding theme
“We both got ready at the venue, me with my bridesmaids and mum and Tom with his best man, groomsmen and my dad,” says Becky. “My dad walked me down the aisle. We got married outside and it looked like it was going to rain. Luckily, as I reached the bottom of the aisle, the sun shone and it was perfect.”
“We had a string quartet and I walked down the aisle to ‘Concerning Hobbits’, an instrumental tune from the Lord of the Rings movies. We then had three readings, one from LOTR, a Friends-themed one and one from Les Miserable. The most special moment was seeing Tom at the bottom of the aisle, waiting for me!”
Drinks on the lawn
“After the ceremony, there was a drinks reception outside on the lawn where the string quartet continued to play,” says Becky. “Canapés were served and we had photos by the pergola with the flowers still on full show. My aunty did the flowers and also the bouquets.”
“Then there was a receiving line, so we could say hello to everyone, followed by the speeches and a three-course meal.”
“Our first dance song was ‘Something Just Like This’ by Coldplay and the Chainsmokers, because it’s our special song.”
Magical details
“Our Lord of the Rings wedding theme included tables named after places that featured in the books/films,” says Becky.
“It’s a special film for us. We also had other slight hints on the day. The colour theme was pale pink (bridesmaids and ties etc) and the table decorations had gold and lots of natural greenery. We had a DJ, a two-tier wedding cake and favours were bags of sweets!”
The best bits…
“The most memorable moments were getting ready with my girls, the first look with my parents and bridesmaids and seeing Tom at the bottom of the aisle,” says Becky. “Then, finally getting married, the speeches, the first dance and the party!”
My top tips…
“Relax, enjoy the day and take it all in as it goes so fast,” says Becky.
“Remember, at the end of it, all that matters is that you two are married. Do what you want, not what everyone else wants.”
