Four years after Chris and Charlie’s first date, Chris proposed. “My stepson, Harry, was staying with us for the first time since Covid started,” says Charlie. “Covid had kept us locked away from each other. Chris proposed at Ferry Meadows on the 29th May. He got our two children to distract me. Then, when I turned around, he was on one knee proposing, and Chris and Harry both asked me together. I felt in shock!”

Shopping for the dress

Charlie found her dream dress at WED2B’s Nottingham store. “I loved visiting the store,” she says. “I found my perfect dress in the first six I tried on. Plus, I soon came back for my bridesmaids’ dresses, as well as hair accessories for us all.”

“My dress is also called Charlie, and it’s a beautiful sheath dress with lots of sparkle,” says Charlie. “I felt like a princess. I love the train and loved the fact it was a Platinum Edition dress and only 100 were made."

A sophisticated venue

The couple married at the Nottinghamshire Golf & Country Club. “We looked at a few venues but this one kept everyone in the same room, which is something we wanted,” says Charlie. “We got married on 7th May 2022. Seeing my venue all set up how I wanted it was incredible. All our hard work definitely paid off.”

The big day

“The day started with my three bridesmaids and I at the venue,” says Charlie. “Then my makeup artist arrived at 7:30am to work her magic. We were all quite calm and it was a lovely relaxed moment – until the final hour, when I needed to get my flower girl ready, me dressed, finalise makeup and get everything into the honeymoon suite!”

“The weather was beautiful and sunny, but there was rain in the early hours,” says Charlie. “My dad walked me down the aisle. One of the most special moments was seeing my little ones walk down the aisle too and seeing Chris standing there crying, waiting for us.”

Party time!

“After the ceremony, my new husband and I went onto the balcony for five minutes together, before heading outside for welcome drinks and canapés,” says Charlie. “As we walked out everyone was waiting in lines to throw confetti at us. It went everywhere!”

A stylish navy wedding

“We had a silver and navy wedding,” says Charlie. “The centrepieces had floating candles with blue roses underneath. The wedding breakfast was a three-course meal and we also had a ‘reveal wedding cake’, which was amazing.”

“One side was pretty, navy and floral, while the other side had The Avengers, with details of Captain America, Spiderman, Thor and The Hulk!”

“Favours were mini Yankee candles and chocolate hearts in tins. Later in the evening there was a DJ and my brother-in-law sang our first dance, which was ‘The One’ by Kodaline.”

My favourite memories…

“Our first dance was one of the best moments, when my husband and I and the children all danced together,” says Charlie. “Also, the speeches and saying our vows while watching my two-year-old jumping up and down in excitement.”

My top tips

“Take a moment to sit back and enjoy every moment, as it all goes too quickly!”
