Tulle is the perfect wedding dress fabric, as it’s a fine, delicate material that flows smoothly while keeping its shape well. If you’ve always dreamed of walking down the aisle in a frothy ball gown skirt, oodles of ravishing ruffles or a fabulously flicked out fishtail, then spectacular tulle is definitely the one for you.
What are tulle wedding dresses?
Tulle is a lightweight, very fine netting, which is often starched. It can be made of various fibres, including silk, nylon, and rayon, and is most commonly used for veils, wedding gowns and ballet tutus. It’s also extremely good for creating illusion panels or necklines decorated with lace appliqués, which are a big bridal trend.
We love it because it provides light coverage when used for straps or illusion details, and it’s the perfect material for our stunning veils too. It’s bouncy and brilliant for short veils and lightweight enough for dramatic cathedral-length veils. Oh, and tulle skirts are simply amazing too!
Our style experts have chosen three of their favourite tulle wedding dresses (not easy!) to show you just what a versatile and stunning fabric it is…
A twist on tradition
Layers of soft tulle create the classic A-line skirt on our Eliana dress. It’s also used for the illusion sleeves, which are decorated with delicate lace appliqués.
At the back, the tulle does a fabulous job of providing attractive light coverage around the shoulders and arms. The keyhole back is bang on trend while the pretty lacing is more than just decorative. It helps to pull the dress in to give you the perfect waist.
The bodice and arms are covered in pretty floral lace, set around an attractively modern V-neck. Our Royale tiara works well with this look, as it’s the perfect mix of sparkle and classic style.
Light as air
Turn around and you can enjoy the tulle skirt in all its glory. It gives the sumptuous train its bounce and lightness. Wear this with our 163 underskirt, specially designed for A-line styles, and you’ll truly feel like you’re walking on air. Alternatively, for more terrific tulle skirts, take a look at Catherine, Raphaela and Emmy too.
On cloud nine
With our new Platinum Edition Atlanta design, we wanted to create the ultimate tulle skirt, full of frothy tulle layers from top to toe!
The Chantilly lace bodice is layered with embroidered appliqués and finished with rhinestones, pearls and beads, all complemented perfectly by that bouncy waterfall skirt.
At the back, you’ll also discover the embellished strap detail, an eye-catching trend from this season’s bridal catwalks.
Find your look
This dress really does have some wow-factor but if you can handle just a little more glitz, style it with our Autumn headband and our Zahara belt covered in frosted crystals and diamantés. Finally, our Miley veil edged with delicate floral beading should also be on your list!
All that glitters
So we’ve seen ball gown tulle wedding dresses, A-line tulle wedding dresses and our last is a fabulous fishtail. We told you it was a versatile material! We know you'll love Platinum Edition Jordana, a blush fishtail design with a stunning layer of sparkling sequin tulle.
The sweetheart bodice is covered with modern embroidery and finished with hundreds of beads, so you’ll glitter from all angles!
Create some curves
The back features a simple line of covered buttons leading down to an explosion of gorgeous tulle. Thanks to the dramatic cut, a mermaid/fishtail gown can highlight a curvy figure or add curves where there are none, making it one of the best styles for hourglass figures.
This is an ideal choice for brides who want a high-fashion, sexy silhouette and some real wow-factor. You can also wear it with our 190 underskirt for some extra va va voom!
