Bride and Groom at their wedding ceremony about to say their vows

Jordan and King met in Ghana in 2015. “A friend took me to King’s birthday party,” says Jordan. “Since then we live between Ghana and the UK. We run a charity in Ghana, which helps children gain access to healthcare, education and sports. As soon as we met, our dreams of the future aligned and we have been best friends ever since.”

A proposal at the beach

King proposed after the couple had been together for six years. “We were on a trip to our favourite beach,” says Jordan. “I really didn’t expect it but I was so happy. He isn’t a romantic person but he made sure it was a special day.”

Shopping for the dress

Jordan and her mum visited WED2B’s Milton Keynes’ store. “We turned up pretty early and ended up being the first people in the store,”she says.

“Helen helped us and she was incredible, welcoming and helpful. I tried on three dresses but I knew the first dress was the one for me. She talked us through every step, from choosing the style to helping in the changing rooms."

“Helen also gave us so much time, regardless of how many people came in after us, and gave her opinions without being pushy. Plus, she didn’t try to sell us anything we didn’t want. She even helped arrange the dress alterations with a local seamstress.”

Jordan chose the Kayden dress and a Willa veil. “I tried them all on in the store and knew they were perfect,” she says.

“The dress is simple and elegant with beautiful details, and I knew we both wanted quite a simple wedding. At the time we didn't know if we would get married in Ghana or the UK (it was in Cornwall in the end), but the dress would have been perfect for both. The low illusion back is my favourite part.”

A seaside wedding

“We got married in Cornwall, right by the sea,” says Jordan. “It was a marquee wedding in the rain with our closest friends and family and it was the most perfect day we could have asked for. We got married on June 18th 2022, which was third time lucky after rearranging twice due to Covid. However, it was worth the wait.”

The big day

“I got ready with my mum, sister and step-mum in our hotel, five minutes from the venue,” says Jordan. “We had our hair, makeup and nails done and enjoyed some champagne together. It rained all day but we did get a rainbow in the evening to make it even more special.”

Bride's home grown flower decorations

“My dad walked me down the aisle to ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ by Kina Grannis. My brother and best friend did hand-written readings for us and the ceremony was perfect, light-hearted and full of love. King cried when he saw me and seeing him was the most special moment.”

“After the ceremony, we had drinks and said hello to all our amazing friends and family,” says Jordan. “Then we had photos before tucking into a wonderful meal. Our first dance song was ‘Fall in Love’ by Joe Boy. It’s a song from Ghana that we both love. It’s upbeat, so we got everyone in the room dancing.”

A Ghanaian theme

“We had a Ghana theme and we handmade all the decorations for the tables, from the table mats to the signs,” says Jordan. “We also made bunting for the marquee and my mum picked the flowers for the venue. Our bouquets were home grown locally and our friends and family made our cake, food and bar, which was perfect.”

The best bits…

“The most memorable moments were walking down the aisle with my new husband and laughing and being surrounded by love,” says Jordan.”

My top tips…

“Don't stress, it doesn't need to be complicated,” says Jordan. “Focus on what will make you happy, not the people coming, because the day is all about you and your husband. Everyone there is coming to celebrate you.”
