Jordan and William’s elegant Gothic wedding
A fun October celebration in Edinburgh
This chic gothic wedding had a black and white theme and lots of stylish and autumnal decor…
Jordan and William met in 2011 in a nightclub in Edinburgh. “Our first date wasn’t until April 2018,” says Jordan. “We went for a meal and drinks on George Street in the city.”
A fairytale proposal
"William proposed in my most favourite magical place, in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Disneyland on 10th December 2021,” says Jordan. “We were standing in front of the castle to get pictures when William got down on one knee in front of children and asked me to marry him.”
The perfect dress - for free!
Jordan entered wed2b’s 'Win a Wedding Dress' competition and was lucky enough to win her dress or the money back. “I discovered wed2b through social media and entered the competition on Instagram,” she says. “Then, I won on my very first go! I thought it was a scam at first and didn’t believe it. But once I realised it wasn’t, I was over the moon. I still can’t believe it happened to me.”
“I chose to get a free wedding dress and the money I saved was put towards our venue and bridesmaids instead,” says Jordan. “When I visited the Edinburgh store the staff were fab. They were very helpful and patient with me, as I tried on loads of dresses.”
A design fit for a princess
Jordan chose Elowen, an off-the-shoulder princess ballgown by Viva Bride. “I loved everything about it,” she says. "The fitted corset and also the off-the-shoulder style. I had always dreamed of a princess-style dress and this one felt like something straight out of Sleeping Beauty.”
A Halloween wedding
The couple married at the SkyBar at the DoubleTree Hilton in Edinburgh on 27th October. “It had great views of Edinburgh Castle and amazing places to go nearby for pictures,” says Jordan. “I got ready at the wedding venue with my bridesmaids. It was miserable weather and rained all day, however it didn’t bother me or stop me from going outdoors for pictures! We had a humanist ceremony and I walked down the aisle to a Disney song.”
“After the ceremony we went straight to the bar for drinks,” says Jordan. “Then William and I went outside in the rain to get pictures taken. Dinner was leek and potato soup, then chicken wrapped in bacon with fondant potato and veg. We finished with lemon posset and shortbread. Our first dance song was ‘High’ by The Lighthouse Family.”
A Gothic wedding autumnal theme
“Halloween is my favourite time of year and my Halloween wedding was black and white themed with some Gothic/autumnal decor thrown in,” says Jordan. “I had glass pumpkin jars filled with fairy lights and the vintage-style wedding cake was a raspberry and white chocolate sponge with black icing and white writing. We also had a DJ from the meal right through to midnight, to get the party going. It was absolutely amazing!”
The best bits…
“The whole day was just fantastic!” says Jordan. “But the best bit was being surrounded by close friends and family and just laughing from start to finish.”
My top tips…
“Enjoy every minute of planning,” says Jordan. “Try and sleep the night before and relax, then dance the night away!”
