Deep wintery blues, festive garlands and a classic roast were the perfect choice for this lovely Brighton wedding…

Laura and Kane met in 2009 when they were both 21. “Kane joined my team at work,” says Laura. “For our first date he took me bowling and to TGI Fridays.”

Kane proposed on one of the couple’s favourite walks. “We liked to go on walks back then,” says Laura. “He proposed on the 13th February 2013 and I had no idea it was going to happen. We got to a spot to stop and rest and Kane got down on one knee. Then he pulled out a beautiful platinum, princess-cut diamond ring. And, of course, I said ‘Yes!'"

Shopping for the dress

Laura found her perfect dress at wed2b’s Brighton store. “Wed2b was mentioned to me by a friend who had bought her dress there previously,” says Laura. “I looked on the website and saw lots of dresses that I liked. I had already visited two other bridal shops but nothing I tried on felt right or was within my budget. However, Brighton wed2b had plenty of styles that I liked and that I was able to try on in my size. I think I tried on around 10 dresses before I finally found ‘The One’!”

Laura chose Jodie, a lace and crepe sheath with a striking keyhole back. “She is absolutely stunning!” she says. “I love everything about this dress. The way it hugged my figure in all the right places, the detail on the bodice and the open back detail is to die for. I didn't want a long train and Jodie was just the right length with beautiful lace detail at the end. It’s a dress I will be keeping forever!”

A Brighton wedding venue

The couple chose a boutique hotel for their December wedding. “We found it back in January 2022 and instantly knew that it was the venue for us” says Laura. “We had the venue to ourselves from Friday to Sunday morning with our guests all staying for the weekend, which made it extra special.”

The big day

“I got ready with my daughter, who was our bridesmaid and ring bearer, and my husband-to-be” says Laura. “My daughter and I had our hair and makeup done and she helped me into my dress.”

“After the ceremony Kane and I went and had some private photos taken with our photographer” says Laura. “This left our guests at the venue to have drinks and canapés. Our wedding breakfast was roast beef and turkey with all the trimmings.”

The wedding blues

“Our wedding colour was navy,” says Laura. “Kane already had a lovely navy suit and it tied in nicely with being a winter wedding. We had a white arch, which we decorated with white linen, and Christmas-themed garlands with snow and pine cones on. My good friend made us wedding cupcakes in red velvet, lemon drizzle and chocolate flavours, so there was something different for everyone. In the evening we had music and a small buffet."

The best bits…

“The most memorable moment of the whole day was getting to marry Kane after being together for 14 years,” says Laura.

My top tips…

“Make time to have 10 to 15 minutes with your new husband to take it all in, as the day goes so quickly!” says Laura.
