Lauren and Michiel’s intimate Belgian wedding
Soft Belgian sunshine helped to make this couple’s wedding day very special. Our WED2B Belgian wedding feature reveals more…
Lauren and Michiel met through Michiel’s sister. “We talked online for a while, but I first saw Michiel in real life when I went to meet him in Belgium,” says Lauren.
“He proposed after we had been together for four months. We were having dinner at the RAS restaurant in Antwerp. After dinner he gave me a letter he had written for me, and asked me to read it while he went to the toilet. At the bottom of the letter he had written, ‘Turn around’. When I did he proposed to me.”
A dream sheath dress
Lauren found her dream dress at WED2B. “It was the first time I’d been to try on dresses and I didn’t have any idea that I would find my dress right away. That's why I only brought my mother and sisters with me."
"Logan was the fourth dress I tried on. When they saw it everyone was silent and then they started to cry. After I put on a veil, I started to cry myself!” (For similar styles try Oakley, Fraser or Theoni)
A stylish Belgian wedding venue
The couple married in Lier town hall then held their reception in a luxurious, converted horse stable in nearby Sint-Niklaas. “I immediately fell in love with the venue, it was so cosy,” says Lauren. “We got married on 14 January 2022.”
The big day
“Since I live in the Netherlands, we were in a hotel with all the guests from the Netherlands,” says Lauren. “That's where we got ready before the ceremony. We then had some photos taken outside, in front of a museum, and we also had some taken in the central station in Antwerp.”
“We had great weather the whole day and the light was lovely for the pictures,” says Lauren. “The ceremony in the town hall was beautiful. I walked in with my mother to ‘Love You More’ by Racoon.”
“For the decor we mainly had lots of flowers and a few romantic touches,” says Lauren. “My sister also arranged the wedding cake, which had Oreo, white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake flavours. It was amazing.”
“After the ceremony we had a dinner of winter barbecue food,” says Lauren. “It was with just a small group of family and friends, which was super cosy and fun.”
My top tips…
“Have two masters of ceremonies who will keep the day well structured. And, most importantly, enjoy yourself!”
