Real Wedding Rotherham: Kate and Mark’s elegant wedding

Young love

Kate and Mark met in 2007 at a friend’s house. “Our first date was actually at my parent’s house, while they were on holiday,” says Kate. “Of course, we were only kids at the time!”

A magical beach proposal

A year later, Mark proposed on the couple’s favourite beach. “He popped the question on a beautiful beach in the Dominican Republic in 2008,” says Kate. “He’d managed to keep it all a secret and get the ring over there without me knowing. It really was magical.”

Shopping for the dress

Kate found her dream dress at WED2B’s Rotherham store in 2019. “It was Camden from The Signature Collection,” she says. “It was a beautiful lacy sheath with a stylish halterneck. I also bought my daughter’s dress from WED2B too. However, before either of us got the chance to wear our dresses, the wedding was delayed.”

The big day

Following the delay, the couple managed to rearrange their real wedding Rotherham for 10th September 2021. The venue was Hellaby Hall Hotel, a beautiful 17th century manor house. “Despite the weather forecast predicting rain, we had beautiful weather,” says Kate. “My dad walked me down the aisle to the song ‘A Thousand Years’ by The Piano Guys and we also walked out to ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz.”

Pretty blush pinks and lilacs

The colour scheme was blush pink and lilac. “It was just stunning,” says Kate. “I had freesias and roses in my bouquet, as they were my late auntie’s favourite flowers."

"Our cake was a two-tier chocolate and Victoria sponge, and it was decorated to match our other flowers, too. We also gave our guests Lindt chocolates as favours.”

Magic and memories

“Later, for the evening party, we had a magician and he was amazing,” says Kate. “One of my absolute highlights was also my 7-year-old daughter doing a reading during the ceremony. She did brilliantly!”

My top tips…

“Just enjoy the build-up and have faith it will all come together,” says Kate. “Most importantly, stay calm. I was, and everyone said how much better it was with a calm bride!”
