This couple followed their beautiful church wedding with a big party for friends and family. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more:
Robyn and Adam first met aged 14, when they were in secondary school. “He was dating a friend of mine and I didn't think too much of him, other than he seemed nice,” says Robyn. “In the sixth form, Adam and I started spending more time together, sitting next to each other in history classes and driving around in his car. I wouldn't say we ever really had a first date! Does McDonald’s car park during free period count? We always knew there was something between us, but life got in the way. That was until three years ago when something just clicked, finally! Some of our friends' joke that Adam was stuck in the friend-zone for 10 years!”
Will you marry me?
The couple were in Cape Town, South Africa, visiting Robyn’s Mum and brother when Adam proposed. “It's my favourite place in the world and Adam knew that when he asked it would have to be there,” says Robyn. “The proposal was perfect. We went to a beautiful beach to watch the sunset. It was very windy, so I started to throw a strop and wanted to go back to the car! Adam insisted we climb these rocks to get to a good view. When we finally made it, Adam asked me to face the sunset, so he could take a photo from behind. He went silent and I kept saying, ' Adam, have you taken the photo yet’. Then, I turned around, and he was down on one knee! I can't even remember what he said but it was one of the best moments of my life.”
Finding the dress
“I went to one dress store before visiting Wed2B,” says Robyn. “It was lovely but very overpriced and I wasn't blown away by anything. I’d set a strict budget but didn't want to compromise on style and quality. My (now) sister-in-law bought her wedding dress from WED2B in Camberley and took me there. I tried a few styles on and the team were really helpful. I liked Eleni but wasn’t sure it was ‘The One’, so I decided to come back fresh another day. But when I got home I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I suddenly knew it was perfect for me. It was 30 minutes to closing and, scared someone would buy it, my sister-in-law raced across town (driving through all the red lights) to get me back to the store, just in time!”
The perfect design
Robyn bought Eleni in August last year. “I fell in love with the intricate detail of the beading and lacework,” she says. “Every part of the dress had something unique and beautiful to look at. It really did sparkle in the light from the bodice to the bottom of the dress. The showstopper element, in my opinion, was the back and the fan lace train. It was so beautiful and different to other dresses I'd seen. As Eleni had a lot of beadwork, I kept my accessories simple and only wore a set of Tiffany pearl earrings, which were a wedding present from Adam.”
A beautiful church wedding
The couple married on the 22nd February at All Saints Church in a Crondall, Surrey. “Our church wedding was perfect and filled with so much love,” says Robyn. “I walked down the aisle to the organist playing Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling In Love'. We had our best friends, Grant and Rachel, give readings too, which made it extra special for us. One of my favourite moments was when my bridesmaids, my Dad and I were stood outside, waiting to walk through the big wooden doors for the church wedding. It hit me then that I'd shortly become Mrs P. I was so nervous but so excited to see Adam.”
A dream location
“We wanted to follow the church wedding with a big reception somewhere local,” says Robyn. “I'd been following Northbrook Park in Farnham on Instagram and, despite researching nearly every venue nearby, I knew deep down that Northbrook was going to be the one. I took Adam to visit it and thankfully he agreed. We booked it that day!"
"It's a manor house set amongst the rolling Surrey hills. There are wild peacocks, which gives it the most magical feel, and the space is light and airy with high ceilings, a grand fireplace, pale stone floors and glass doors opening onto the gardens. The Orangery, where we ate, was filled wall-to-wall with green vines. Our florist then added oversized, whimsical foliage. We also hung more fairy lights outside, along with candles and oversized brass lanterns, to bring a soft, warm and relaxing vibe.”Winter wonderland
As it was February the couple were expecting rain and snow. “So, we wanted to make the space feel cosy and beautiful,” says Robyn. “Surrey Wedding Hire dressed the space and created seating areas with soft furnishings for the drinks reception. I'd describe our wedding style as romantic, luxe-botanical and minimalist and our colour scheme was natural foliage with accents of gold, greens, burgundies and greys."
"I also took inspiration from Rock My Wedding and Pinterest, adding brass gold antiques, such as candlesticks, gold-rimmed glassware, charger plates and oversized lanterns. Our five-tier cake was made by Julie, a family friend, and was decorated with two King Protea bulbs, South Africa's national flower, as a nod to my Mother’s heritage. In the end we were also very lucky with the weather. It was 19℃ and sunny all day, meaning our guests could enjoy the gardens.”
My favourite moment…
“There were so many!” says Robyn. “One that stands out though, was towards the end of the night. Adam and I decided to steal a minute and walk out into the gardens in the evening, peering back at our beautiful venue to admire the energy and happiness that came through the windows of the buzzing Orangery. It was a room filled with every single person we loved in the world, all-dancing and celebrating together. It was a special moment to just take in our day, our hard work and to admire how lucky we were.”
