Real Weddings Exeter: Becky and Kev’s rustic Cornish wedding
These newlyweds celebrated surrounded by friends and family in a delightful rural setting. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more…
“Kev and I met on good old fashioned Tinder!” says Becky. “We chatted for about three months before meeting for our first date in a local pub in Exeter. We danced (and drank) the night away and the rest is history.”
A heartfelt proposal
Kev proposed just before Christmas 2020. “He took me and our little boy to a log cabin in Cornwall,” says Becky. “On our last night, Kev had arranged candles and petals on the balcony outside. After giving the most beautiful speech I've ever heard, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I said yes before he'd even finished asking the question. We'd been together for a number of years, and already had a strong family unit with our little one, but I felt like the happiest person in the world!”

Becky found her dream dress at WED2B’s Exeter store last May. "I originally bought the India dress in blush but did a U-turn when I tried on Delphine,” she says. "The delicate lace embroidery and boho style were exactly what I'd been looking for, even though I didn't know it initially!"
"The team in the Exeter store were so great, they made me feel amazing and were really helpful in chatting through the alterations that I wanted and recommending seamstresses.” (For similar styles try Jaela, Lilith or Dayse)
A rustic venue
The couple married at The Green in Liskeard, Cornwall. “We fell in love with the venue from the moment we saw it online,” says Becky. “Unfortunately, due to Covid, we weren't able to view it in person before booking, but we were so sure that we just went with it. We weren’t disappointed! We chose to get married in the 'Really Rustic' barn, surrounded by hundreds of tea lights. It was so simple but exactly what we wanted.”
The big day
The wedding was on 22nd December 2021, exactly one year after Kev proposed. “Our wedding day was so chilled out from start to finish,” says Becky. “My younger brother sang and played the guitar while our guests took their seats and he also played Ella Henderson and Tom Grennan’s 'Let's Go Home Together’ while my dad walked me down the aisle.”
“I had been so calm getting ready that morning but as soon as I saw Kev and our son waiting for me at the end of the aisle, I couldn't stop crying!” says Becky. “We had written our own vows, so I continued to cry throughout most of the ceremony but it truly was perfect.”
Understated decor
“From the beginning of our wedding planning, we knew we wanted something rustic and quite modest,” says Becky. “Our main colour themes were champagne and cream, with lots of foliage."
"We collected hundreds of glass jars with the help of friends and family and placed these around the room with tea lights. The tables had some lovely foliage centrepieces and more candles, and we had personlised baubles as name places for our guests. My very talented friend made our wedding cake as her gift to us. It was a gorgeous three-tier cake with a semi-naked finish, topped with gold leaf and real flowers. It was perfect and tasted divine!"
Photos, drinks and nibbles
After the ceremony, the newlyweds welcomed guests into the bar area with canapés and Prosecco before heading off for some photos. “We had a bit of rain on the day but this didn't stop us from making the most of it and we're so happy with how the photos have turned out,” says Becky.
“We headed into the main reception area for our wedding breakfast, which was amazing, followed by speeches (and more tears from me). Then we cut the cake before going outside for our sparkler shot. After putting our little one to bed, and an outfit change from Kev who had been in his military uniform all day, we re-joined the wedding party for our first dance.”
“Our first dance was one of our most memorable moments,” says Becky. “We had learned a routine and, despite a quick practice five minutes before where we forgot most of it, we pulled it off! It was to 'Never Leave Me' by Avicii, one of my husband’s favourite artists. We had the most amazing day and it was lovely to see so many family and friends after more than 18 months of not being able to see many of them. It's a day we truly will never forget.”
My top tips…
“Based on my experience, I just have two pieces of advice for brides. One, don't worry about changing your mind. Whether it’s the dress, your hair and makeup or something else, you want to feel like the most amazing version of yourself on your big day. That has to come from within, so it's important that you are happy with it all! Two, enjoy yourself! It's so easy to worry about how everyone else is feeling on your wedding day but you and your partner are the most important people. So, try not to worry about anyone else and just have fun. Also, make sure to get some alone time with your new partner. It will make it that much more special.”
