Real Weddings Wrexham: Sarah and Alex’s elegant blush wedding

Sarah and Alex met in February 2015 when Sarah was working in a local newsagents. “Al’s mum would come into the shop and comment on what a good couple we’d make,” she says. "I didn’t have a clue who he was at the time! Eventually he came into the shop with her and asked me if I’d like to go for a drink. We went for drinks and food in Chester for our first date.”

A romantic proposal

Al proposed in Llandudno, which is Sarah’s favourite place in the world. “ He suggested we go to Llandudno for the day on 30th March 2019,” she says. "We walked up the Great Orme headland, overlooking the town, to enjoy the view from the top. I also spotted some dolphins in the water below and turned to tell him, only to discover he was down on one knee. It meant so much that he had chosen Llandudno as the place to propose.”

Searching for wedding dresses Wales

"I went with my bridesmaids to WED2B’s Wrexham store,” says Sarah. “It was really comfortable and exactly the experience I hoped for when shopping for wedding dresses Wales. I had a good idea of the style of dress I wanted and the final dress, a lacy sheath with a simple skirt, was pretty close."

"My dress was the second one I tried on. The assistant was really helpful and the whole process was so easy. My bridesmaids also got their dresses at WED2B.”

A delightful local venue

The couple married at the Plas Hafod Hotel, an 18th century house in nine acres of gardens. “Al and I have both been going there for years for meals with our families,” says Sarah. “It’s a beautiful, family-run hotel and I had always dreamed of getting married there. It’s definitely our happy place.”

The big day

The wedding was on 17th August 2021. “My mum, my bridesmaids and I got ready at the hotel and Al stayed at home with his best man and groomsman,” says Sarah. “At 1pm, my dad walked me down the aisle to Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ and it was so special."

"The family dog, Bob, was our ring-bearer and walked down the aisle with the rings tied to a cushion on his back. Luckily, he was very well-behaved!"

"Although the weather was pretty rainy, there were dry spots and we were able to get some lovely photos under the cover of trees. After the ceremony we had welcome drinks and canapés, as well as the chance to speak to our guests.”

Blossom trees and soft blush pink

Blush pink was the main theme and the couple used blossom trees/arches to decorate the venue. “We also had lots of flowers and greenery on tables,” says Sarah.

“There were jars of strawberry bonbons as favours and our table numbers featured QR codes for guests to access photos of us in different holiday locations."

"Our wedding cake was a three-tier buttercream cake (vanilla and raspberry, lemon and salted caramel) with a fondant figure of our cat Mr Pig on top!”

Speeches, laughter and lots of dancing…

“There were so many memorable moments throughout the day, including the amazing speeches,” says Sarah. “The best man created a website so guests could watch a hilarious music video of the groom, as a teenager, dancing to a Eurovision song."

"We'll also never forget the dance floor, which was full of laughter and dancing from the very first song right through to the last. Our first dance song was ‘Baby I’m Yours’ by The Arctic Monkeys and it was the perfect choice for us.”

My top tips…

“Savour every single second because the day goes so quickly,” says Sarah. “Try not to get caught up worrying about the little things. The main thing is just to enjoy your special day with all the people who are there to share in your happiness.”
