However, all our real brides shared one aim, to leave feeling like themselves.

What is the wed2b Ambassador Experience?

The wed2b Ambassador Experience celebrates brides and their real bride wedding dress stories, highlighting the emotional moments and confidence breakthroughs that can happen while finding the perfect dress.

Following hundreds of applications, our final seven were invited to take part in a fun photoshoot. On the day they were able to relive that wedding magic all over again, while telling us how they found their wedding dress confidence. The moving stories they shared focused on self-doubt, body image, identity, age, culture, pressure and all the conflicting emotions that come with shopping for the ‘dream dress’.

Their honest thoughts and real bride wedding dress stories might be just the bridal confidence boost you need at the start of your own wedding dress journey…

Meet Our Ambassadors

Seven brides, seven inspiring real bride wedding dress stories...

Laura’s Story: “I didn’t think anything would suit me”

Like many brides, Laura was nervous about wedding dress shopping. “I was worried because I’m short with a fuller figure and I often find it difficult to find clothes,” she says. “I was apprehensive that nothing was going to fit or suit me, or whether I would be able to find a dress at all.”

“Bridal shops need to stock a much wider range of sizes, which should also be reflected in their imagery,” says Laura. “That’s what drew me to wed2b. The images of curvier models on its social channels made me feel like there were dresses there for me.”

“The first few designs I tried weren’t right. So, my stylist chose one that she thought would suit me. It wasn't one I would have chosen but, to my surprise, I absolutely loved it! I would never have chosen my dress without her support.”

“Finding something that fitted perfectly also helped my body confidence,” says Laura. “Not only did I not have to worry about sizing, my dress showed off all my curves stunningly. I was obviously plus size but I was a beautiful plus size. When first saw myself in the mirror I thought, ‘Wow! I actually suit a wedding dress’.”

Naomi’s Story: “I thought I wanted one thing, but I fell in love with the unexpected”

Naomi thought she knew what she wanted from a wedding dress. “A mermaid dress that hugged me in all the right places,” she says. She had also imagined the whole experience going a certain way. “Boy, was I wrong!” she laughs.

When Naomi arrived in store they didn’t have the dress she wanted. “I was actually devastated,” she says. “However, looking back, it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened.”

She was reluctant to try anything else, but then the stylist asked about her venue. “When I told her it was a grand venue with 300 guests, she said, ‘You’ll need a bigger dress or you’ll blend in.’ That shifted my whole perspective.”

As soon as Naomi stepped into her dress, something changed. “The princess in me awoke,” she says. “I felt beautiful, like I could take on the world. When I turned to the mirror and there was no more doubt in my mind. I had never felt so much like a princess until that moment. It felt like falling in love all over again.”

Helen’s Story: “I couldn’t believe how good I looked”

Helen went into wedding dress shopping feeling a real mix of emotions. “I was excited, curious, nervous and a bit apprehensive,” she says. “It’s my first marriage and I thought I might be too old to wear a gown, as I’ve put on some weight and my shape has changed.”

Lack of representation was also a problem. “All I was seeing online was young women in wedding gowns,” she says. “I didn’t see any middle-aged brides at all. There’s this idea of what’s ‘appropriate’ at a certain age. Part of me thought I should be looking for a suit, but my heart really wanted a proper gown.”

When the dress she wanted wasn’t available in her size, her stylist suggested something else. “Fabien was the first dress I tried on,” she says. “When the curtain opened and my goddaughter saw me, she gasped. I walked to the mirror and thought, 'Wow', I couldn’t believe how good it looked.”

“My dress ticked every box,” says Helen. “I felt like myself, but also like a new version of myself. I loved how the dress showed off my shape. Wearing my dress gave me a confidence I didn’t expect, confidence to accept my body as it is now.”

Sonali’s Story: “I didn’t know if a white dress would feel like me… until I found one that did”

As the first person in her family to marry someone who wasn’t Indian, Sonali was navigating something completely new. “I feel incredibly fortunate to be celebrating two weddings, my Hindu religious ceremony and my civil ceremony,” she says. “I wanted to embrace my husband’s traditions as wholeheartedly as I could. Wearing a white dress felt like another beautiful way to do exactly that.”

Sonali’s wed2b stylist helped transform the whole experience. “She walked me through everything clearly and reminded me that there were no limitations,” she says. “Then, when I tried on my dress, I just knew. There was no deliberating, no second-guessing. I felt like such a beautiful woman.”

On the big day, the dress felt deeply personal. “Unlike my Hindu ceremony dress, which carried the weight of cultural tradition, finding my civil ceremony dress felt like an entirely personal journey,” she says. “Everything was simply about me, what made me feel beautiful and what felt true to who I am. You will always remember the moments that mean the most to you. Don’t compromise on those moments.”

Nia’s Story: “After everything I’d been through, this moment meant everything”

For Nia, wedding dress shopping was never just about the dress. “When I was a teenager, I spent nine months undergoing intensive chemo for stage four cancer,” she says. “During that time, my mum and I watched Say Yes to the Dress every day. We used to dream about experiencing that together. But there was a time where we didn’t know if that would ever actually happen.”

Before visiting wed2b, Nia had already tried on dresses at home during lockdown. “I realised you can look nice in any dress but I wasn’t sure if I’d ever find a dress that gave me that special feeling.” And, with only nine weeks until her wedding and stores just reopening, there was time pressure too.

However, she knew she had found her dress when she didn’t want to take it off. “My stylist asked me to face away from the mirror, put the veil on and styled everything,” she says. “When I turned around, I saw my mum in tears before I even saw myself.”

“It felt like closure on a really difficult time,” she says. “Like everything we went through to get to that moment was worth it. After everything my body had been through, I thought that’s all people would see. But in that dress, no one saw any of that. They just saw a bride.”

Joanne’s Story: “Two weeks before my wedding, I had no dress”

Just two weeks before her wedding, Joanne made a huge decision. “I decided I hated my original dress and I didn’t want to walk down the aisle wearing it," she says. "I felt hideous, miserable and cheated because I should have been excited… and I wasn’t.”

However, everything changed the moment Joanne walked into wed2b. “I was so stressed, but the staff were so good with me,” she says. “They took their time, we had a laugh and I fell in love with the first dress I tried on.”

“I thought I’d want a ballgown with a long train,” she says. “But as soon as I put my dress on, nothing else compared. I couldn’t believe something so beautiful actually looked good on me. It was such a relief. Like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders.”

Joanne’s dress didn’t just change how she felt on her wedding day. “It gave me a new confidence that I really needed,” she says. “It also showed me that stressful situations don’t have to feel overwhelming if I take them step by step. So many of us leave things to the last minute. I now know it will work out in the end.”

Helene’s Story: “I loved my dress… even when others weren’t sure”

Like many brides, Helene arrived with a clear idea in mind. “I was dreaming of a mermaid dress,” she says. “However, when I put on Lois, a crepe sheath with a stunning statement train, everything changed. It just felt right.”

Although Helene loved her dress instantly, not everyone felt the same. “I briefly came back to exchange it, as my family had some concerns,” she says. “That made me question myself for a moment. It wasn’t easy hearing doubts when I already felt so strongly about it. But deep down, I knew how much I loved it.”

“Yasmin at the London City store was incredibly supportive,” says Helene. “She helped me find something I felt comfortable in and made me feel sure of my choice. When I went back, she was understanding and helped reassure both me and my family. That gave me the boost I needed to stick with what I truly wanted.”

The turning point wasn’t just finding the dress, it was choosing it. “When I put Lois on, I felt confident, elegant and completely myself,” she says. “That feeling never changed, even when I started to question it. The second I put it on again, I knew. It wasn’t just a dress, it was my dress.”

“It gave me the certainty to choose what I truly wanted and to trust my own instincts,” she says. “You’re the one wearing the dress and you deserve to feel amazing in it.”
