Bride and Groom walking around the wedding venue grounds

Jodie and Joseph first saw each other on Tinder and then they both swiped right. “We met after two days of talking,” says Jodie. “It was at a local pub on the river in Barnes. When I saw Joe walk around the corner my heart stopped beating, it literally skipped a beat.”

A late night proposal

Joe proposed after seven years together. “The seven-year ‘Hitch’ I call it!” says Jodie. “He proposed on our anniversary, while we were on a weekend away in Edinburgh. We were in our gorgeous hotel room and we ordered some midnight snacks. The waiter delivered a tray with cookies and the ring was hidden underneath. I couldn’t believe it, I was absolutely astounded. Joe filmed the whole proposal, too.”

Shopping for the dress

Jodie visited WED2B’s central London store. “It was incredible,” she says.” I went in knowing I wanted to be a princess from a fairytale for the wedding day. The experience was perfect, great, precise and the staff were very helpful.”

“I chose Cambridge,” says Jodie. “It was my dream fairytale dress. Sophisticated, stunning and absolutely ideal for our venue. I felt like a real life princess. My wedding train was also to die for. Plus, I loved the gorgeous buttons on the back, that ran from the shoulders to the end of the train.”

A Hampton Court Palace wedding venue

“We chose the first venue we saw,” says Jodie. “When I walked into Hampton Court House I cried. We wanted a local venue, as we have lots of family close by. It was honestly like a fairytale. It had everything in one place and we also had exclusive hire of the venue and the grounds, which were set in Hampton Court Palace. We got married on 21st October and it still doesn’t feel real.”

The big day

“I got ready with my bridesmaids, my mum and Joe’s mum,” says Jodie. “We had a great hair stylist and an amazing makeup artist who ensured we ran to time, and looked incredible. It was raining while we were getting ready, but you never know what to expect in October. However, the moment I left the hotel to get into my wedding car, the sun shone. I was very lucky!”

Bride and Groom embracing at their wedding ceremony

“I walked into the ceremony to an acoustic version of ‘Stand By Me’,” says Jodie. “It was a special moment, seeing my man waiting for me at the end of the aisle, and all the smiley, happy faces in the hall.”

After the ceremony…

After the ceremony, there were drinks and canapés on the lawn in the front garden. “The weather held up and it was perfect,” says Jodie. “Joe and I had photos, then joined the rest of the guests for the last hour. Afterwards, we headed in for the speeches and a sit down dinner. Our first dance was to the song ‘My Girl’ by the Temptations.”

A subtle mix of colours

“Our theme was very minimalistic,” says Jodie. “We had sage green, cream and white, with a hint of pastel lilac. The lilac represented Joe’s nan, who is very fond of us and we adore her."

“Everything was personalised, from the signage down to our favours. These were donations from us to a cancer charity, so everyone had a pin at their place setting.”

The best bits…

“The whole day, honestly!” says Jodie. “We laughed, we cried, we smiled. We literally had the best day of our entire lives.”

My top tips...

“Take your time,” says Jodie. “Enjoy every second. Don’t stress. There’s nothing you can change, so just go with the flow. Also, take some time for you and your husband to head off and have champagne together a few times throughout the day. So you can reflect and chat. It really was so special to do that together. It was like checking in, catching up.”
