A sophisticated off-the-shoulder design was the perfect match for this classic ethereal themed wedding.

We pride ourselves on the timeless elegance of our designs, and our stunning Pierette dress was just right for this ethereal themed wedding day...

Lauran and Steven first met on Tinder seven years ago. “We bonded over silly nerdy things and quickly met up,” says Lauran. A first date in the afternoon at St Andrews Square, Edinburgh, started with a cup of tea, then a walk and then dinner and cocktails. “It lasted about eight hours in total!” says Lauran.

“Neither of us wanted it to end..."

"...Steven told me he wasn’t an affectionate man but then held my hand walking me to the bus stop, where we still argue about who kissed who first. He’s not let go of my hand since and I love it.”

A sunset proposal on the Isle of Skye

Steven proposed four years later on a beach on the Isle of Skye. “I’d always said I’d quite like to be engaged around our fifth anniversary,” says Lauran. “So I was convinced he was going to propose the following year. However, in 2020, we were away in Skye for a week’s holiday, as we love walking and hiking."

"On the first night I suggested we go to a beach to watch the sunset. Little did I know there was a ring burning a hole in Steven’s pocket! We got to the top of the hill at Coral Beach and were alone taking photos of a beautiful sunset. I turned around and Steven was on one knee. He said he knew he was going to propose on holiday but wasn’t sure when or where but it felt right at that time. It was a total surprise and so lovely.”

Discovering Anna Sorrano

“My friend got her beautiful wedding dress at wed2b Edinburgh, so I decided to go for a look too,” says Lauran. “The store experience was just lovely, every member of staff I spoke to was so kind and welcoming. The dressing room in the shop is lovely too, looking on to the water with so much light coming in and so much space for the beautiful dresses.”

A dream come true

Lauran chose Anna Sorrano’s Pierette dress, an off-the-shoulder A-line style with a soft tulle skirt decorated with beautiful floral lace. “I saw Pierette and fell in love, it was perfect, but the wedding was quite far away,” she says. "I hadn’t even chosen the venue yet, so I just thought I’ll find something closer to the time. When I visited wed2b again six months later it was gone, of course, which I'd anticipated. However, I looked on the website and saw it was still on there. When I enquired I was told there was just one left in my size down in Southampton (I’m in Scotland) but it was kindly sent up for me. It was a dream come true and excellent customer service!”

Our designs are all limited edition but if you love Pierette’s mix of classic and modern elements we think you’ll also love Angelika, which combines sleek Mikado with stunning 3D florals. And don’t miss stunning Appolina and sophisticated Adelaide too, which have a similar contemporary/classic feel.

An ethereal themed wedding

The couple married at Runningburn, Kelso, a modern barn venue with beautiful countryside views of the Scottish Borders where Lauran grew up.

“It was a blank canvas and we could hire it for the entire weekend,” says Lauran.

“So we could start decorating on the Thursday for the wedding on Saturday.”

The big day

Lauran rented a local AirBnB that was a converted church for the bridal party and got ready with her mum, mother-in-law and six bridesmaids. “The sun was shining as we got ready and it stayed that way, which was lucky for October,” she says. “Both my mum and dad walked me down the aisle to the highland cathedral, accompanied by bagpipes. We had a traditional Scottish ceremony, including hand fasting and drinking from the Quaich. We also wrote our own vows and our humanist made the ceremony so personal and a great reflection of who we are as a couple.”

The reception was at Runningburn and guests were treated to a three-course meal with the wedding cake served as a dessert option. “We had a beautiful Victoria sponge with hand-dried flowers on it for me, salted caramel cheesecake for my husband and vegan and gluten-free cupcakes, as well as a fruit platter, so plenty of choice,” says Lauran.

A labour of love

The colour scheme was a classic mix of white with deep emerald greens.

“We wanted it to seem outdoor but indoors,” says Lauran.

“A year before the wedding we started collected unique cut glasses from charity shops, so that every guest had a different glass to use. We then handmade tags for each of them, to encourage guests to take them home as a favour. I also handmade miniature kilts for our seating plan and hand stamped all the place names.”

“Our baker knew our vision for the cake right away, but couldn’t find the dried flowers she felt were fit for us,” says Lauran. “So she went above and beyond and hand dried flowers just for us. It turned out beautifully. Steven and I bonded over nerdy things and our cake topper was an homage to Lord of the Rings and our nerdiness!"

"It also lent itself to the woodlands/ethereal themed wedding we wanted.”

Dancing the night away

Later there was a full ceilidh and also a hog roast. “Our first dance was to Space by Biffy Clyro,” says Lauran. “We both love the band and that song just fitted us so well. We worked with a dance instructor and they expertly taught us a simple routine with lovely spins. Then we brought everyone else in via a snowball waltz half way through. We decided to have a full ceilidh after our first dance, so there was also lots of fun Scottish dancing with a four-piece live band giving some instruction.”

The most memorable moments…

“After the ceremony, our guests lined up outside and threw flower petals ,” says Lauran.

“It was wonderful walking down and seeing all of the most important people in our lives, smiling and throwing petals at us.”

And for other Anna brides…

“Embrace your uniqueness, just because something may not be ‘cool’ or ‘normal’ for a wedding, doesn’t mean you can’t do it ,” says Lauran

. “It’s all about you and your partner."

"As long as you’re both happy then it’s a successful day.”
