Charlotte and Chrioni first met in sixth form when Charlotte was 16. “When Chrioni proposed it was so beautiful,” she says. “I never wanted anything public. I always wanted something small but also outside, as I love nature and being outdoors. We had been together for seven years at this point and we were in Cornwall on a little getaway.”

“We were on a walk in Fowey on 5th Nov 2021 and we got to a viewpoint where I was taking videos,” says Charlotte. “I propped my phone up on my bag to get a video of both of us and then I turn around to tell him to get in the shot. To my surprise he was down on one knee! I was so shocked, as I wasn't expecting it, but then I was just overjoyed. We then continued our hike and it was a perfect day.”

Shopping for the dress

“Shopping for my dress was amazing!” says Charlotte. “WED2B’s central London store was the first place I went to try on dresses. I wasn’t really expecting to buy anything, it was more just to try out styles and see what I liked.”

“I showed the assistant images on Pinterest of some styles I liked. Then I tried on a few dresses that I found on the rack. It was a very chilled and relaxed environment. I was quite nervous but the store was quiet, which meant we could take our time.”

“After trying on a few dresses the assistant went and found a ‘wildcard' dress, based on what I had showed her on Pinterest. Oh my goodness, she found one that was almost identical! It was a dream, I just had to buy it!”

A ‘rustic meets urban’ venue

“Our ceremony was at my husband’s grandad’s church and our reception was at 100 Barrington,” says Charlotte. “Barrington was just so beautiful, it had very boho, rustic yet urban vibes, which is exactly the theme we wanted. There was also lots of greenery and the space was just perfect. We got married 6th August 2022.”

The big day

“I got ready at my house with my bridal party and the weather was perfect, warm and sunny,” says Charlotte. “My dad walked me down the aisle and my husband’s dad, who is a pastor, married us. Having him marry us was a very special moment.”

“Also, my little sister who drums surprised my mum on the day and did drumming for one of the gospel songs we sang at the church. My mum cried. At the end, we danced out of the church, which was so fun and special.”

Let’s party!

After the ceremony everyone headed over to the reception venue for canapés and drinks. “We had two first dance songs, which we made into a little medley,” says Charlotte. “We had a slower song to start, ‘I Wanna Love You’ by Donell Jones, from our first concert together. Then it transitioned into ‘Candy Rain’ by Soul for Real, which was more upbeat. We also had everyone join in towards the end. These are just two songs we both love and we couldn’t pick between them!”

A bohemian wedding theme

“I have always wanted a bohemian wedding theme with an urban twist, so we tried to create this using a lot of dried flowers and pampas grass, mixed with greenery,” says Charlotte. “Our groomsmen and bridesmaids also wore grey and sage colours, which looked beautiful together.”

Bride and Groom's Order of service board

“We both come from different cultures and backgrounds, one British the other Jamaican. So we wanted to mesh these together and just create a fusion of cultures and bring everyone together. We had rum shots as wedding favours (sweets for kids though) and a buffet with a beautiful selection of Caribbean cuisine with other elements, as salads and things.”

“We also had a DJ and some evening snacks to keep people energised for dancing! Our cake was three tiers and it was alternating chocolate and red velvet.”

The best bits...

“The most memorable moments were the first dance, walking down the aisle and seeing the venue decorated for the first time,” says Charlotte.

My top tips…

“Try and take a few moments to just step back and admire everything throughout the day, it goes so quick!” says Charlotte. “Also, remember to get family pictures, as it’s easy to forget if you have lots of people.”
