What could be better than beautiful sequin lace sparkling in the sun and soft tulle fluttering in the warm breeze? Not much, as this happy bride discovered at her Greece wedding...

Lucie and Aaron were matched by friends. “Aaron was my work colleague’s partner’s personal trainer,” says Lucie. “Funny fact, Aaron’s twin brother was my personal trainer years before I met Aaron!”

Aaron proposed on Christmas Day 2021. "He woke up early in the morning and said he had a gift he couldn’t wait to give me,” says Lucie. “I was expecting a jumper not a ring!”

Discovering Viva Bride

Lucie went to several wedding stores before she visited wed2b in Wednesbury. “I knew my perfect dress was going to be there,” she says. “I'm a plus-size bride and they had a fabulous range to fit me. I actually saw the perfect dress on the website before visiting and, at my appointment, the assistant asked if I had a dress in mind. Luckily, my dress was in stock in my size and I took her home the same day.”

Lucie chose Viva Bride’s Ally, which has a wonderful sequinned floral lace bodice with exposed boning and detachable off-the-shoulder straps. A button back and layered tulle skirt finish the look. “Ally was the style I knew would suit me,” she says. “Previously, I tried on a similar and much more expensive dress at a local dress shop but Ally fitted me perfectly. There was even a matching veil I had to have! I also bought an A-line underskirt, a robe and a storage box to keep my dress safe on the plane.”

A Greece wedding in Santorini

“We always knew we wanted a wedding abroad,” says Lucie. “I had visited Santorini once before and knew Greece wedding venues and photos would be spectacular.”

The big day

“I got ready with my mum and three bridesmaids,” says Lucie. “Thunderstorms were forecast but the weather turned out to be perfect. However, it was very windy. My dad walked my down the aisle just as my veil flew off! We had a Friends themed wedding and had our wedding singer play an acoustic version of the theme tune, 'I’ll Be There For You’.”

Breathtaking photos

After the ceremony the newlyweds went for a spectacular photo shoot overlooking Santorini’s caldera. “While we were away our guests listened to our musician play songs chosen by us on the guitar,” says Lucie.

“Later, we had a glorious buffet by a well-known restaurant on the island, which all our guests raved about. Our first dance was to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Tenerife Sea’ and, as we danced, ground fireworks were set off around us.”

Beautiful blues and pinks

"Santorini is known for its blue domes and I wanted to complement this with a colour theme of blues and hints of pink,” says Lucie. “I made all the decorations myself and took a big suitcase of them over with us."

"We also had a spectacular wedding cake representing Santorini. In the evening, our singer became our DJ and we had Greek plate smashing at the end of the night!”

The best bits…

“The most memorable moments were getting ready with my bridesmaids and walking through the Greek village in my wedding dress, with donkeys passing by me. It was a real Mama Mia experience! Then seeing my fiancé at the top of the aisle, where he and his groomsmen became so emotional. Later the fireworks and Greek plate smashing!”

And for other Viva brides…

“Enjoy the planning, I feel lost not planning our special day,” says Lucie. “Having a wedding abroad was so much easier than I thought, too. I had an amazing wedding planner who I contacted most days."
