A romantic Christmas Day proposal paved the way for this couple’s beautiful wedding. Our WED2B real weddings feature reveals more about their story:
12 years after they first met, Nathan enlisted the help of their then three-month-old daughter to propose to Harriet. “He had a babygro printed for Felicia with the words ‘Will you marry me?’ on the front,” says Harriet. “He popped the question on Christmas Day and it was so lovely he included her too. I was so surprised I couldn’t speak!”
Finding ‘The One’
Harriet chose WED2B’s Camille dress in champagne by Viva Bride after visiting our bridal shop in Nottingham. “Everyone was so nice in the shop, and the assistant who helped me actually picked my dress from the rails and encouraged me to try it on.” she says. “I loved all the detail on the dress. The bead buttons at the back, the sparkly lace and the train were all stunning. I felt amazing when I put it on and I knew it was the one.” To complete the look she added a Bellatrix veil with pretty scalloped edge and a scattering of teardrop crystals.
Location, location
The couple married at Colwick Hall in Nottingham. “It’s such a beautiful venue, I loved it as soon as I walked into the building” says Harriet. “So I booked it straight away without Nathan! Then I rang him up and said, ‘Are you free on this date?'. He was and I said good because we’re getting married then!”
An elegantly romantic big day
The ceremony was held in the beautiful ballroom and Harriet’s dad walked her down the aisle while a harpist played the wedding march. Her two young cousins read out poems they had written themselves followed by a reading by the maid of honour of ‘Love is a Temporary Madness’ from Captain Corelli's Mandolin. “My favourite memory is seeing Nathan’s face as I walked in, he had tears in his eyes because he was so happy,” says Harriet.
The ballroom's key feature is a stunning painted ceiling featuring the sky and birds. This was reflected in the wedding breakfast decor, such as the tall birdcages with rose candles in them, surrounded by peach and white flowers. The place settings were bird-shaped shortbread biscuits with names iced onto them.
“The evening was so much fun,” says Harriet. “We had a hot buffet and a sweet cart, a wedding pod for photos and also a face painter who was brilliant! The best bit was everyone dancing the night away – you can't beat a good old disco at a wedding. I wouldn’t change a single thing!”
