Joanna & Joseph’s romantic Glasgow wedding at Radstone Hotel

Joanna with her bridesmaids on her wedding day

After meeting at a party in 2018, Joseph and Joanna got engaged while enjoying cocktails at sunset on a Lanzarote beach. Two years later, after browsing stylish Glasgow wedding venues, they fell in love with the idea of a hotel wedding for their classically elegant day.

The dress

Joanna’s modern Mikado ballgown, Ravenna from wed2b, was ideal for her venue’s sophisticated vibe.  “My experience at Glasgow wed2b was great,” she says. “It was the only store I visited where I was allowed to look through the racks of dresses myself. The staff were also supportive and listened to exactly what I wanted. Ravenna was one of the first dresses I picked out. I loved the simple, classic but timeless look.”

The wedding day

Their hotel wedding took place on 5th July at the Radstone Hotel, a luxurious modern venue popular with Glasgow brides. The weather was a touch rainy but still warm and pleasant.

“We had a humanist ceremony with a pianist who played ‘Feels Like Home’ as I walked down the aisle,” says Joanna. “He then played ‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers while we signed the register, and ‘The One I Love’ by David Gray as we left.”

The elegant decor included lots of white roses and soft, cloud-like gypsophila, with pretty pearls dotted throughout. Alongside this, blush pink bridesmaids dresses provided a gentle contrast. “We also had a live band for entertainment in the evening,” says Joanna.

Favourite moment

“The very best thing was celebrating and dancing the night away with all of the people we love the most,” says Joanna.

Advice for brides

“Enjoy every minute, the little things don’t matter and plan the day exactly as you both want it!”

Daisey & Kieran’s colourful wedding at Fairfield House Hotel, Ayr

These newlyweds put their meeting down to fate, Kieran’s attractive sideburns and a Higher Computing course at school, where they got to know each other, that Daisey almost didn’t take. Ten years later, after plenty of ups and downs and a candlelit proposal at home, they both knew it was meant to be.

The dress

Daisey loved her wed2b Glasgow visit. “The staff were lovely and helpful and the changing rooms were huge, so I didn’t feel under pressure,” she says. “My dress, Ravenna, was the exact style I wanted. My legs are my best asset, as I’m 5ft 10in, so I loved the split skirt, but also wanted something semi-modest that I felt comfortable in.”

The wedding day

The couple married on a windy October day at Fairfield House Hotel, a luxury venue on the seafront in Ayr. “It was the windiest day in a long while!” laughs Daisey. “It also rained on and off but we managed to avoid the worst of it and get fantastic pictures outside during dry spells. We had a Humanist ceremony and I walked myself down the aisle to ‘Feels Like Home’ by Edwina Hayes. My friend Niamh read an Irish Blessing and another friend, Eleanor, read a poem she had written for us.”

Styling & details

The colour scheme was beautiful brights paired with dark green bridesmaid dresses. “Our backdrop, table centres and flowers were a mixture of sunny bright colours with forest green, to match our vibrant personalities but with an autumn vibe,” says Daisey. “We had a carrot, chocolate and lemon wedding cake and a DJ all night long. The Maybole Pipe Band also paid us a visit.”

DIY wedding ideas to steal

The couple made lots of details themselves and also included a sweet nod to their much-loved dog, Willow.

DIY wedding ideas included:

  • Homemade cork letters, seating plan and frames
  • Polaroid photo favours for each guest
  • Acrylic name signage
  • A dog biscuit bar and cardboard cut-out of Willow
  • A multi-coloured ribbon backdrop

Favourite moment

“There were so many great moments,” says Daisey. “Walking down the aisle on my own, sharing our own vows, the smoke bomb and confetti pictures. Later, walking into dinner to ‘Freed from Desire’, watching the Maybole Pipe Band, our first dance and doing a lift. We just smiled and laughed the whole entire day.”

Advice for brides

“Follow your heart and vision. Do and create what makes you happy.”

Sarah-Jane and Stephen met at a party and bonded over a shared love of adventuring, snowboarding and the outdoors. “We danced the night away and the rest is history!” says Sarah-Jane. The couple later got engaged at Christmas, when Sarah-Jane found the ring box Stephen had hidden under the tree.

The dress

“Shopping for my dress was the best experience I could have asked for,” says Sarah-Jane. She chose Elliana from wed2b, a modern, organza A-line with a sweeping train. “It was flattering, comfortable and made me feel like a princess. Outdoor celebrations are becoming increasingly popular for Scotland real weddings and these newlyweds had a mini festival at a friend's outdoor classroom on the 13th July. “We had a stretch canvas full of fairy lights in a stunning woodland location,” says Sarah-Jane. “There were tipis, yurts and lots of good food, music and dancing.”

Styling & details

The look was greens and soft autumnal colours. “My favourite season is autumn, so my theme was ‘autumn in summer’,” says Sarah-Jane. “There were lots of dark greens, oranges, reds and yellows. I made all of the decorations myself, from my centrepieces to my big hoop as a backdrop. I also made all of the favours and the bridesmaids accessories, like coat hangers and robes. The dark green bridesmaids dresses were from wed2b, too.”
