Real Weddings Cardiff: Sian and Kyle’s laid-back wedding
Covid-related delays meant that when this stylish wedding finally happened it was laid-back, low-key and filled with love. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more…
Sian and Kyle first met when Sian served him as a waitress. “We both made quite an impression on each other, then we properly met again on my 18th birthday night out,” she says. “For our first date, we went for a drink and then to the cinema. It went so well, we ended up at a casino, as we didn't want the night to end!”
Popping the question…
Kyle later proposed after the couple had been together for nine years. “It was in front of the Cinderella castle in Disneyland Paris,” says Sian. “My stomach dropped when he went down on one knee with a ring, as I had no idea!”

Sian found her dream dress in WED2B’s Cardiff store. “The sales assistant was so lovely,” she says. “I recommend WED2B to everyone I know who’s getting married.” (For similar styles try Vanessa, Maud or Marina)
Like something from a movie
The couple married at The Coal Exchange Cardiff. “The hall is like something from a Disney film and I instantly fell in love with the venue,” says Sian. “We were meant to get married in May 2020 but, due to Covid, we finally got married on the 3rd June 2021, and it was perfect.”
A relaxed big day
“As the wedding was reduced numbers (and my serious lack of planning due to the uncertainty of things ) everything was very laid back and low key,” says Sian. “We had just over 30 guests for the ceremony, which made it feel really intimate. My dad walked me down the aisle to Freya Riding’s ‘Lost Without You’."
“After the ceremony, we enjoyed complimentary canapés from the venue, which were gorgeous. They also provided us with a red carpet to walk down with white petals scattered along each side. The weather was lovely, but we spent most of the day inside the magnificent hall.”
“We didn't have a main theme, but I had red roses, which I gently tied into table decorations, seating plans and the cake,” says Sian. “It was a three-tier cake. The top two layers were fake, but the bottom was salted caramel. For the wedding favors, I made hangover kits.”
“We weren't allowed to have a DJ, a band or even any dancing! But we have a party booked for next year, on our anniversary, to celebrate with everyone who couldn't attend due to restrictions.”
My top tips…
“Don't worry about it being perfect. Covid taught me it doesn't matter how much you plan, things can change in an instant,” says Sian. “As long as the people you want are there, that's all that matters. I waited 12 years to get married and it wasn't quite how I initially pictured it. However, it was still perfect in every way.”
