For a couple that love exploring, a camper van trip on the Scottish Island of Islay was the perfect place for a proposal. “It isn’t unusual for us to go camping or go away, so the proposal was a surprise,” says Nichola. “We were sat having a cheese and cracker picnic and taking shelter from the elements, as it was a freezing but beautifully clear day. Luke started talking about how important I was to him and I noticed he was looking a bit sheepish. He then pulled the ring out and of course, I said, ‘Yes!'”

Dress shopping

On her first visit to the WED2B Hinckley store Nichola bought her beautiful Callista fishtail design and an underskirt. “I loved it when I first put it on,” she says. “I’m curvy and never expected to feel good in a tighter fitting dress like this. I’d assumed princess style would look better on me, but I’m so happy I listened to my sister and tried on something different. I love the fact that at WED2B you can try dresses on in your size, and walk away with one too. I’d been to a boutique shop previously and hated trying dresses that were way too big and having to imagine how I would look. The quality of WED2B lace was also equal to many of the more expenses dresses I saw.”

A few added extras

Nichola then went back to WED2B a few weeks before the wedding to try on a jacket too. “I bought the Alexandra jacket and an Estella belt, which perfectly clinched in my waist. I tucked the straps into my dress when I had the jacket on and took the straps out later on when I took it off after the first dance. I loved having two looks without actually changing my dress!”

A great value party venue

The wedding was held at Skylark Farm in Staverton in February. “We wanted a place that was affordable, so we were able to provide what would feel like free-flowing Prosecco, beer and wine,” says Nichola. “The ceremony was important to us but we wanted somewhere we could have a good party atmosphere too. Skylark Farm has amazing views of rolling countryside and a modern barn that was a blank canvass to decorate as you want. Plus reasonable bar prices for after the free drinks ran out!”

The big day

The church ceremony was held at Chipping Warden church, in the village where Luke grew up. “We loved the whole service and we were smiling throughout,” says Nichola. “We had four traditional hymns but we also had acoustic singers for the entrance of the guests and during the signing of the register. I entered and exited with traditional organ music and my Father walked me down the aisle, followed by my four bridesmaids. One of the most memorable moments was Luke telling me how amazing he thought I looked. I can read him like a book and we’d both joked beforehand how awkward it would be if he didn’t like my dress or how I looked, as it would be really obvious. Luckily he did, I could see it written all over his face!”

The party afterwards

The look for the day was lots of foliage, moss and greenery with pops of pink and burgundy. “I also used the feather on the back of our wedding invites throughout the venue, as I really loved the design. It became our wedding symbol,” says Nichola. “Our first dance, to an upbeat song called ‘On Top of The World’ by Imagine Dragons, was funny as we hadn’t practised anything. Our bopping around worked though, and when I called the bridesmaids and guests to join us the party really got started. Luke has a big group of kite surfing friends from Uni and it has become an unofficial tradition to lift the bride and groom up in the air. It was really fun as it was through one of my favourite songs, ‘Mr Brightside’ by The Killers. Luke spent a lot more time in the air though, I was happy to stay on my feet!”
