Real Weddings Liverpool: Jennifer and Chris’s garden party wedding
A glorious summer day was the backdrop to this fun garden party wedding. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more…
Jennifer and Chris first met through a friend in 2010. “We were friends for a couple of years and got together in 2014,” says Jennifer. “We didn’t have a first date as such, as we were friends, to begin with!”
A delayed proposal
Chris proposed on 7th August 2018 in Sri Lanka. “He originally planned to propose a few weeks earlier but I spoiled it by ending up in hospital!” says Jennifer. “He proposed at sunset on a really secluded and beautiful beach.”
Finding the dress
“I bought my dress in WED2B Liverpool,” says Jennifer. “The staff were fab and the whole experience was very relaxed and easy. Summer was the first dress I tried on and I absolutely loved it. We added a belt for some extra sparkle and topped it off with a three-tiered lace veil. While I was there I also fell in love with the bridesmaids' dresses too. So, the girls wore blue and picked their own styles.”
The perfect setting
The couple married at Allerton Manor Golf Club. “It’s really close to where we live in Liverpool and we loved it as soon as we saw it,” says Jennifer. “The outdoor space was perfect for our garden party wedding. We got married on 1st August 2019 on the most glorious of days!”
The big day
“The morning was so relaxed, with the bridal party getting ready at my mum and dad’s house,” says Jennifer. “We just chilled, listened to music and had a few glasses of champagne. For the ceremony, our friend Roisin sang, while another friend, Adam, played the piano. I walked down the aisle to ‘Make You Feel My Love’ by Adele because it’s my nan’s favourite.
We also had readings by two of our closest friends. One was from The Nightmare Before Christmas and the other was an extract from a book both Chris and I love. The ceremony was perfect for us, a bit of silliness and not too serious!”
A garden party wedding
“We had a loose garden party wedding theme,” says Jennifer. “Chris’s mum did all the flowers for the tables, which looked absolutely gorgeous. The wedding cake was sentimental too, as it was made by my amazing cousin and auntie. We also made loads of things ourselves, including our photo booth, which went down a storm!
Chris is a teacher and when we went to the local park for the photos we saw lots of kids he teaches. One even managed to cycle past into one of the photos! We loved the whole day but the band in the evening just topped it off. We had a Liverpool-based band called New Power Soul Club and they had the dance floor packed.”
My top tips…
“We were incredibly laid-back throughout the whole planning process, as we just wanted to enjoy it,” says Jennifer. “We took the same attitude to the day itself and enjoyed every minute!”
