Real Weddings Wales: Abbie and Greg’s fun-filled day
Colourful flowers, an amazing retro cake and the very best music ensured this lively wedding was a day to remember. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more…
Abbie and Greg first met at a festival in Wales when they were 16 years old. “A few months later we had our first date on our local beach,” says Abbie. “Greg proposed when we were on a trip to Iceland for my birthday. We ended up going on a late night excursion, looking for the Northern Lights. Around 1am we were standing in the middle of a forest looking for the lights, which were nowhere to be seen. Greg then decided to get down on one knee and the Northern Lights made an appearance in the very same moment. The feeling was incredible!”
Bridal shops Wales
Abbie’s first stop was WED2B’s bridal shops Wales. “I chose the Markle wedding dress because it made me feel elegant, fresh and beautiful,” she says. “I bought it from WED2B’s Wrexham store and the girls were very helpful and sweet. They actually helped me make the final decision by saying that not many people could get away with such a plain, fitted dress.”
An intimate venue
“We chose our incredible venue, Talhenbont Hall, around three years ago,” says Abbie. “The grounds are just breathtaking. The venue was very intimate and exclusive to us, which allowed my husband and our families to stay for a total of three days.”
The big day
The wedding was on the 15th November 2021. “It was just perfect,” says Abbie. “It was a rainy day but we just didn’t care at all."
"I had booked a swing/jazz band for Greg, as a wedding gift, and they were absolutely incredible. They played the song ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ as I walked down the aisle, which is a very personal song to Greg and I, as it reminds us of our lost ones.”
Mood-lifting colour
Even though the wedding was in November, the couple wanted to make it as light and colourful as possible. “The room was filled with white roses and hydrangeas, except our top table, which had a range of colourful flowers in a blue and white Chinese vase,” says Abbie.
“We lit the room with beautiful smelling candles and had scalloped pink napkins to complement the colours.”
A showstopping retro cake
“The best bit was my retro cake,” says Abbie. “It was just an absolute dream of piped ribbons in pinks and blue, topped with cherries."
"It wasn’t your normal wedding cake, but who wants normal? We had a vanilla-piped, one-tier wedding cake with cherries on top. The cake was then surrounded with cupcake puddings, decorated beautifully with lots of different colours."
Dancing the night away
“The day was full of laughter, happiness and a whole lot of love,” says Abbie. “We had a gorgeous sit-down meal in the main coach house, surrounded by all the beautiful multicoloured flowers and Chinese vases."
"Then, for the night party, we hired the best DJ we could find. He made the party amazing and no one left the dance floor. He was also accompanied by our incredible sax player, who joined in for most of the night. It was just amazing, there are no words!"
"We also had the best of the best when it came to the food, too. Our caterers Cheeky Chilli are absolutely outstanding. You couldn’t fault anything.”
Sparklers, confetti and a magical first dance
“The most memorable moment was probably our first dance,” says Abbie. “We started with ‘A Good Night’ by John Legend, as we wanted to keep everything upbeat and happy. Then the song went into Kid Cudi’s ‘Pursuit of Happiness’, at which point everyone joined in and went crazy! During the first dance we also had sparklers and confetti canons go off around us, which was just magical.”
My top tips…
“It’s your day, you do what you want!” says Abbie. “You don’t need to have things the traditional way, you have to put yourself first.”
Abbie’s Dream Team
"My suppliers were unreal,” says Abbie. “They made our day so stress free, which we are so grateful for!”
