A chance meeting over a garden fence led to this stunning countryside wedding. Our WED2B Real Weddings Worcestershire feature reveals more:
Anthony was Jackie’s brother’s next-door neighbour. “We first met over a garden fence!” laughs Jackie. “He kindly pointed out my roots needed touching up and it all went from there.” After a Christmas Day proposal, the couple set about planning the perfect big day.
Dream dress shopping
Jackie visited our Birmingham store with her daughter, four months before the wedding date. “The team were fantastic and helped me choose the perfect dress,” she says. “I had their undivided attention and tried on a whole range of dresses until I found The One - Gracie!"
"I loved the champagne underskirt and the fitted style of the dress. It was flattering and just so different from all the others. I bought the dress on the day, as I knew as soon as I put it on that it was The One.” The adult bridesmaids, Jackie’s daughter and step-daughter, wore navy and silver while her two young nieces wore ivory flower girl dresses. The perfect location
The couple chose Bordesley Park Marquee and Barns in Worcestershire for their big day. “My daughter is the wedding coordinator there, and we knew the day she first showed us around that it was where we were going to get married,” says Jackie. “The ceremony room sold it to us before we had even seen the marquee. Plus the surrounding views are stunning.”
A military escort
Jackie’s son is a soldier in the British Forces and he walked her down the aisle in his Number 1 dress. “It was very emotional seeing him in his uniform,” says Jackie.
“We walked down the aisle to ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ by The Piano Guys and there wasn’t one dry eye in the room! My daughter also read ‘On Your Wedding Day’ during the ceremony.
Sunshine and canapés
Following the ceremony, there was an outdoor drinks reception in the gardens at Bordesley Park. The wedding was in October but the weather was amazing so all the guests sat outside enjoying the sunshine.
The bright stuff
The look for the day was bold and beautiful. “We chose bright colours,” says Jackie. “There were handmade lanterns for the ceiling and martini vases filled with all my favourite flowers on the tables. My daughter surprised us with Polaroid bunting, which had photos of us both from when we were little right through to the day we met and up to today. People loved looking at them and telling the stories behind the images.” There was also a delicious cake that was a gift from Anthony’s mother.
Food, glorious food
Everyone sat down to a delicious three-course meal, which was followed by speeches from Jackie’s son and daughter, her brother, the Groom and the Best Man. Then the evening got underway with live music from The Groove Monkeys with pork baps to keep everyone going. “Over a year later our guests still talk about how amazing the band were!” says Jackie.
“One of the funniest moments was when my son tore his trousers on the dance floor, after some overly enthusiastic dance moves!” laughs Jackie. “My top tip is just to relax and take in what’s happening. Its all over so quickly, so enjoy it while you can!”
