Alix and James met at Dibden Golf Course in 2013. “James asked me to play in a competition with him and, of course, I said yes!” says Alix. “Our first date was a dog walk in the New Forest in August 2013.”

James later proposed when the couple were on holiday in Majorca. “We were at La Terraza Restaurant in Alcudia,” says Alix. “He treated me to a stunning meal and then got down on one knee! We got together on the 10/10/2013, he proposed on 9/9/2019 and then we married on 8/8/2023.”

Shopping for the dress

Alix found her dream dress at wed2b’s Southampton store. “It was an amazing experience,” she says. “I only visited twice before finding my dress. The staff were so helpful and so welcoming, which made me feel stress-free and relaxed. They listened to everything I wanted and I got the perfect dress from them.”

Alix chose Rio, a striking off-the-shoulder crepe sheath. “I wanted something simple and elegant,” she says. “It didn't have any detail on it, which meant I could accessorise with any jewellery I wanted. It made me feel beautiful and my mum, who came with me, agreed.

“I also bought three sage green bridesmaid dresses from the Southampton store. It was another very enjoyable experience that I would highly recommend to others!”

A Majorca wedding by the sea

For their Majorca wedding the couple chose the restaurant where James proposed. “The restaurant is right next to the beach,” says Alix. “We have always loved being near water, whether it’s the sea, lakes or rivers. So, it was a perfect location for us. It was also where James proposed to me, so it will forever have a special place in our hearts.”

The big day

“We stayed at a lovely villa with family and I got ready with my bridesmaids (James's two nieces and our friend’s child),” says Alix. “The weather was stunning, beautiful and sunny throughout the whole day. We had an evening ceremony at 5pm, due to the heat. My dad (who is going through cancer treatment) walked me down the aisle, which meant so much to me. The music was Ed Sheeran’s 'Perfect', played acoustically on guitar.”

The afterparty

After the ceremony there were cocktails and photographs. "We then had a lovely three-course dinner at the restaurant,” says Alix. “The colour scheme was green and the sage green of the bridesmaids' dresses was the theme throughout. The bouquets and table decorations were eucalyptus leaves with white roses and other white flowers, and we had white flower arrangements for the top of the aisle.”

“Our wedding cake was made locally by a lovely baker,” says Alix. “The cake topper was personalised and featured our dogs, as we absolutely adore our dogs and were sad they couldn't come with us! We also had a caricature artist who did a personalised picture for every guest. Later, we had a local Spanish DJ who did an amazing job.”

The best bits

“The most memorable moment of the whole day was when I got to the end of the aisle,” says Alix. “I completely relaxed as soon as I was with James. It was like all the stress and worry disappeared in one moment.”

My top tips…

“Just relax, don't over think everything,” says Alix. “It is very likely something won't go to plan, but your guests probably won't even notice. Just enjoy every moment, as it goes so quickly!”
